Christine O'Donnell says prayer impacts her polls
CNN Political Ticker ^ | 10/25/2010 | Shannan Adler

In a recent interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, Christine O'Donnell listed both God and Gloria Steinem as sources of inspiration and influence when times get tough on the campaign trail.

The interview was conducted by CBN's The Brody File on Friday at Wesley College in Dover, Delaware and is posted on CBN's website.

O'Donnell cited a double standard she believes is being applied to women, specifically conservative women who choose to run for office. "I don't feel it because I don't watch the news. (Laughs) No. I do feel it. There's certainly a double standard and I don't often quote Gloria Steinem but she said you can look at a double standard if they wouldn't attack the male opponent that way and there's no doubt that they wouldn't say the things they're saying about me, they wouldn't do the things that they're doing if I weren't a woman. I'm not whining but there certainly is a double standard especially when it comes to conservative woman."

O'Donnell then delved into faith stating, "God is the reason that I'm running. If I didn't believe that there were a cause greater than myself worth fighting for, if I didn't believe that it takes a complete dying of self to make things right in this election cycle I would not be running and when you die to yourself you rely on a power greater than yourself so prayer is what's gotten us all through."

She continued that her success in politics can be directly tied to prayer: "The day that we saw a spike in the polls was a day that some people had a prayer meeting for me that morning for this campaign so I believe that prayer plays a direct role in this campaign and I always ask please pray...

Sorry, my friend, but if that was a joke, you have the driest and perhaps most unorthodox sense of humor I have yet come across. Not flaming you. Don’t believe in doing that to people who express their opinion. But, your “joke” really did not rank too high on the laugh meter.

Okay, just wondering. I gathered you made a joke by stirring the pot.

“Funny? No. Clever? Uh-uh.”

It certainly set a lot of people off, so it must have spoken to something real. And not being serious, it must fall somewhere in the realm of comedy.

As a fan of well played sarcasm, yours was a bit toooo subtle.

The problem was not with the people who didn’t “get it”, the problem was in your delivery.

If you’re an atheist, and I assume you are as I can’t imagine a Christian calling prayer “supernaturalism”, then there is on point in debating you as there is no common ground to debate on.

Don’t worry. For my comment, I’ll be condemned to hell, castigated as a liberal troll, probably flagged to the mods and most likely will be prayed for as well.

Note: This post is in news and not religion, and therefore I should be okay. We’ll see.

Go COD!

My point is not to bash O'Donnell, as I am really, REALLY rooting for her to win, but to ascribe some supernaturalism to a bump in polls is as ridiculous as people denigrating her for the "witchcraft" nonsense.

"The day that we saw a spike in the polls was a day that some people had a prayer meeting for me that morning for this campaign so I believe that prayer plays a direct role in this campaign and I always ask please pray..."

Why is this nonsense? Do you ridicule a woman who is exhibiting faith in Jesus' words?

Don’t really have a problem with people not getting it (though I’m constantly surprised that people take everything so seriously, but that’s the internet for you—half of it, anyway, the other half being taking serious things lightly), I just prefer to respond to name-calling with name-calling.

Christene can believe what she wants to.

She would be seated immediately in the Lame Duck session. Then Christene would stop the socialist bills and Amnesty Democrats have planned for the Lame Duck session.

I just want her to stop the democrats/Marxists. A few words that she says doesn't matter at all. Who couldn't the liberal media paint as being "dumb" if they followed them everywhere with a camera and spun and lied about what she said?

The media uses these techniques and lies to slander any Republican as being dumb, or a psycho. The media did it to Reagan , Bush, Palin, and now they are doing it to O’donnel.

Christene still beat Coons the democrat/Marxist in the debate and she beat the media in the debate too.

She is not dumb, not any other religion, not a wacko. Christene is a constitutional conservative and we should all go to her site and join her team . Illegals are working for the democrats. So lets work for Christene.

Correct assumption

Right. I agree. Because I'm quite sure we agree on smaller government and true conservatism. The facts led me to conservatism (well, as well as my father to whom I owe much gratitude). I make my arguments (and COD can/should as well) with the facts and the constitution. Crediting unseen forces and unmeasurable bumps due to unknowable methods diminishes her core message.

It wouldn’t, would it?, if you didn’t recognize it as a joke. But I do stick by it, over-dry or not, as an example of the time honored tradition of parody and reductio ad absurdum.

Revelation 5:8
When He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

Revelation 8:3
Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a golden censer; and much incense was given to him, so that he might add it to the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar which was before the throne.

Revelation 8:4
And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up before God out of the angel’s hand.

What is really great about praying, is that when you are so upset you can’t talk, but are laying there with your face in the dirt, the Holy Spirit will speak for you.

We can’t say it wasn’t the prayer, so she could have just told the facts and let those who believe, rejoice, and those that don’t, scorn.

Who would have thought that ex-Governor Pete DuPont would have endorsed COD.

People should note that DuPont won the 1980 race for Governor of Delaware with 71% of the vote. That's right...71%.

She continued that her success in politics can be directly tied to prayer: "The day that we saw a spike in the polls was a day that some people had a prayer meeting for me that morning for this campaign so I believe that prayer plays a direct role in this campaign and I always ask please pray for the campaign; please pray for our staff; please pray specifically that the eyes of the voters be opened."

This is really the kind of thing that is better left unsaid. Prayer is good, but attributing some positive poll result to a morning prayer meeting probably isn't going to play well in Delaware. In Alabama sure, but in liberal states like Delaware - probably not so much.

This is CNN reporting this.

Why if this is even true do you think CNN is reporting this.

To get the reaction they got from you and tublecane etc. .

They want to slander Christene , turn conservatives and others against Christene. And the media wants to distract us from the issues.

How do those puppet strings feel , those from CNN and the liberal media?

No. I point out that prayer didn't help her in the polls - advertising, the debates and having the facts on her side helped her in the polls. by crediting prayer, what happens if she loses? And what happens if she wins? It's like the NFL guy who praises God upon winning - what, did God like the other team better when he loses? And better yet, what happens when one of the many Muslim Wide receivers do it? I know it gives many comfort, but when you think about it, it makes no sense.

I know you understand because you ridicule the idea of unicorns and fairies in your tagline. (Quite rightly)

In essence, she's saying "God wants me to win."

Well, she can certainly think that ... and it may even be true.

But such claims tend not to play well with the voting public, and there's no "double standard" required -- folks tend to look askance at such claims no matter who makes them.
