The martyr in their midst was known all around the area. But in case anyone had missed it, a mourning sign had been posted outside Saad Adwar's house in the Baghdad suburb of Kampsar, revealing exactly where he lived.
It said simply that Adwar had been killed "by the hand of a spiteful and hateful enemy while he prayed to his holy God in Our Lady of Salvation church" nine days ago.
This morning, the terrorists who had killed 44 of Baghdad's Christians at their place of worship, came hunting them once more – this time in their homes.
They struck 10 times just after 7am in six different places in Baghdad, almost all of them Christian houses.

The Islamic State of Iraq, a front group for al-Qaida, had heralded attacks on Christians in a web statement posted after the church massacre. It gave the Coptic Church in Egypt 48 hours to "free" the wives of two priests whom it claimed had converted to Islam and were being held against their will. Failure to do so, it pledged, would lead to "swords above the necks of Christians".
After the warning, the Iraqi Orthodox archbishop, Athanasios Dawood, called for Christians to emigrate.
"I say clearly and now – the Christian people should leave their beloved land of our ancestors and escape the premeditated ethnic cleansing," he said in a statement to CNN delivered from London. "This is better than having them killed one by one."

The truth is, the new testament clearly indicates that early persecution, and subsequent fleeing from it, was the cause for the spread of much of the gospel.

The Church Persecuted and Scattered
On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. 2 Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him. 3 But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.
On the other hand, they are being murdered both at Mass and home, and are apparently getting no support from their government. LORD knows they won’t get any help from Obama. Heaven help them.
According to his new book, George Bush is real proud of what he accomplished in Iraq! I wonder if he’s be as proud if it were Baptists or some brand of Calvinist those Mohammedans were killing over there?
I’m sure Christians probably have had to flee before Islam in the past, although the difference is that in earlier times, they had support from the secular rulers, who would send armies and fight battles to keep the Muslims from conquering their land and enslaving them.
Now the appeals of Christians fall on deaf ears in the West. I saw a very sad photo this morning of a large demonstration of Iraqi Christians, with a group holding a banner calling for the world to speak out in their defense. Fat chance.
We have American troops practically next door to the Cathedral, and while they were part of the group that tried to rescue the Christians, other than that there has been no US military defense of the Christians. And there hasn’t even been a voice raised on their behalf, certainly not by our Muslim president or by any leader, to my knowledge.
Also, don’t forget, most likely they’re not even going to be able to emigrate because no country will take them. In general, Arab Christians do not qualify for refugee status here; Bush tried to change that, but failed.
Some will blame GWBush for this.
Why? Did he chose the course, set the course, encourage the course, support the course that members of sectarian militias among the Iraqis chose to take?
No, he didn’t.
The fall of Saddam gave the people of Iraq an opportunity.
What they chose to do with it was not predestined, or inevitable.
Responsibility for these kind of outcomes rests with the Iraqi people; period.

Yes, as JOAT’s citation from Acts shows. I also seem to recall that the Holy Apostle Paul had to flee Damascus because of a plot to kill him, being lowered over the wall in a basket.
It has always been the tradition of the Church to flee persecution if possible, and accept martrydom only when flight is impossible.

Bush’s new book makes it quite clear that he is VERY proud of his foreign policy, the one that made Eastern Christians dispensible. Besides, as is made evident every day here on FR, Eastern Christians are really quite Christian enough in the world of the Right here in America. He is proud because the deaths of Eastern Christians don’t count in his world.

So evidently you've gotten some sort of backlash on this website. Sorry to hear that.
I'm not a W fan, never was, but to equate a bad foreign policy stance to being happy that Christians of some stripe or another are being murdered is a stretch.
I very much agree that American foreign policy has been absolutely wrong in supporting evil Islamic regimes over Christian nations/peoples for several decades. (Serbia anyone?) That needs to change soon, as well as stopping the importation of islamic settlers, such as the Somalis.
Importing Egyptian/Iraqi Christian exiles would be much better for our nation than the non-integrating Sharia following muslim refugees the government seems to prefer.
