This is the location of a major oil shipping route. Speculation as to what is causing the quakes is rampant. Possibilities include: volcanic action to further separation of a rift between the African and Asian continents.

It’s either the gulf of Aden or the Straits of Hormuz, but not both. They are about a thousand miles apart.

I just checked, there is a range of 4 to 5 strength at depths 7-11km

Isn’t there either a major fault or a plate edge that runs down the middle of the Red Sea and up through the Holy Land?

There has been a tremendous number of earthquakes that began early during 14-Nov, 0630 UTC, and are ongoing at this moment.
More than 30 moderate earthquakes ranging from magnitude 4.5 to 5.4 have rattled under the sea where the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea meet at a point off of Yemen.
The depths have been mostly around 10 km, with a few deeper.
A closer look reveals something that appears highly unusual. That is, so far at least 20 of the earthquakes have been at a depth of exactly 10.0 km.

Paricutin volcano, but in the already most dangerous part of the world? How will the mullahs explain this if it turns out to be the explanation?
Worthless speculation but fun.

THE GULF OF ADEN IS NOT THE STRAIGHTS OF HORMUZ.

There is alot of unusual activity occurring worldwide. For instance, Guy Arkansas has been experiencing 2+ earthquakes daily for about two weeks.

Unusual Swarm of 42 Earthquakes In Strait of Hurmuz (Gulf of Aden) Yemen May Mean Trouble to Tehran Imams who blame it on the scantily-clad new Miss USA, an Arab American.
She was born in Lebanon and grew up in the US.
