Huck Hushed

Free Speech: No one should be surprised that the police of political correctness have finally begun rewriting literary classics. But their double standards of censorship are not about to stop at the racially offensive.

The Montgomery, Ala.-based New South Books has published titles that include 2006's "Ali Dubyiah and the Forty Thieves," described as "the tale of the ruler George W. 'Dubyiah' Fratbush, son of the earlier monarch Wimpbush, and the Fall of the American Empire."

In it, Dubyiah's "lust for power draws him into a gambit to take possession of the world, together with his band of thieves — including Dick Chaingang, Donald Rumsfailed, and Paul Werewolf. But how long can Ali Dubyiah lie, cheat, and steal before his subjects rise up against him?"

Apparently disappointed at that title being down at 1,069,259 on the Amazon best-sellers list, the liberal publisher has turned to the task of improving a timeless American classic. Its new edition of Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn" will substitute more than 200 instances of the N-word with the word "slave," as well as removing all uses of the word "injun."

The sanitization of Huck Finn is actually just the latest chapter in a prolonged and significant controversy over the Twain novel. And it marks a victory for a northern Virginia public school administrator named John Wallace, who nearly three decades ago became a TV celebrity after using his school's "Human Relations Committee" to ban the book from public school curricula because it was "the most grotesque example of racist trash ever written," in Wallace's estimation.

As a result, Huck has fallen off countless school reading lists; consequently, the New South edition is intended largely for youthful readers.

...it was "the most grotesque example of racist trash ever written," in Wallace's estimation...

Clearly, Mr. Wallace never read the book.

I was so flippin’ mad about this yesterday (as you might imagine.) I’m thinking of recording an album under the pseudonym “Nigger Jim” just because of this story. It’ll be an album about the cleansing of history by pc d-bags.

Yes, I guess the relationship between Huck and Jim that Twain so carefully crafted would be considered racist according to Wallace.

Blacks and whites talking together, oh the humanity!

Several years ago one of the local high schools staged Agatha Cristie's Ten Little Indians. Needless to say the PC police made them change the name to "Ten Little Hindu Boys" ...apparently the local population of Hindus wasn't as easily offended as the Native Americans.

The original title wasn’t “indians”. It got politically-corrected to THAT way back when.

You are correct.

The original title was Ten Little Niggers

Shocking, but true.

So, are we going to ban most all “rap” songs as well?

Buy as many as you can find of the original, so you can teach future generations how the left works.

Glad I got my unadulterated copy years ago - before the PC police got hold of it. But the introduction in my copy is written by an ivory-tower lib professor who constantly bemoans the use of “nigger” in the masterpiece. Guess I could just “omit” those intro pages.

I've got a copy of Kipling's Kim like that - an afterword about how great it was that there's no more colonial powers and how awful the whole British Empire was anyway. I need to buy an earlier edition.

The continuing victories of the PC crowd reminds me of the Old Soviet revision on all histories, poems, novels that did not portray history or them in a nice positive light. And the same can be said for the university elites who ban anything Christian, Pub or conservative. All in the name of ...free speech. Rotten hypocrites are the Leftist snobs.
