Jared Loughner's disturbing video game forum posts [ Played Violent Video Games ]
Salon ^ | Jan 12 2011 | By Adam Clark Estes

Suspected Arizona gunman Jared Lee Lougher's own violent rhetoric dates in online gaming forums as early as last spring. According to an investigation by the Wall Street Journal, the posts disturbed other gamers in the forum with a mixture of both confusing and alarming statements showing Loughner's growing frustration.

Some of the posts are vicious:

Would you hit a Handy Cap Child/ Adult? This is a very interesting question….There are mental retarded children. They're possessing teachers that are typing for money. This will never stop….The drug addicts need to be weeded out to be more intelligent. The Principle of this is that them c— educators need to stop being pigs. (posted on April 23, 2010)

Some are graphically violent:

I bet your hungry....Because i know how to cut a body open and eat you for more then a week. ;-) (posted at 12:03 a.m. on May 20, 2010)

A number of related posts showed Loughner's frustration with finding a job and also his psychological meanderings toward a different path:

If you went to prison right now.....What would you be thinking? Just curious? (posted May 10, 2010)

The behavior became worrisome enough that one administrator even suggested contacting authorities but wanted "to make sure it's done through the proper legal means." While Loughner never mentioned Giffords or his plans for the attack, the extent to which the 22-year-old college dropout struggled in the months leading up to Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, is undeniable.

Friends say he didn’t watch TV or like the News.

He did play violence based video games and watched Hollywood films of the dream manipulation genre.

If the left is serious about his not being responsible and that outside influences are to blame, they need to focus on Hollywood.

But given that entertainment media is a major DNC source of funds , they focus on Sarah and the local gun store instead.

I guess that was editorial comment but I haven’t heard mention of any violent video games. He made some violent/insane comments on the game discussion boards. But the game I heard mentioned was some online text based (no graphics) strategy game. Maybe text based games make you go crazy. (didn’t even know they still had text based games) But please don’t bring the video games made him do it into the argument.

you want to see gorefest watch japanese or korean horror/slasher films. Hollywood has nothing on them. I have a strong stomach but reading some of the reviews made me slightly nauseous.

A crazy person plays video games. Thus, video games must be banned.

Let’s move onto music now. Do any crazies listen to music? Let’s ban that too.

/s

The compulsion to blame this stuff on external forces is really starting to bug me. It is wrong to blame political rhetoric, and it is equally wrong to blame music, games, movies, etc. Let’s keep accountability where it belongs...with the individuals committing crimes.

I am not for censoring anyone, and even if they do cross the line, but I sure do wish that some video game developers had the good since to know when less is more! But I don't think they should be made to!

The man was paranoid/schiz. He lived in his own world.
I was warned not to get too close to our patients with this diagnosis. They see things in one’s behavior that is simply not there.

One patient was so sure I was in love with him, he wrote beautiful poetry, gave me tapes of his songs and even had a vase etched with a poem for me. He was 63, married and P/S.
I was 31 and very much not in love with him. I told him kindly, my boss told him kindly and his wife told him kindly.

My boss told me to take a different route home every day and stop cycling to work. He escorted me to my car and watched for this man. He told me that the patient would slit my throat during an episode and believe that he was dreaming. Never knowing it was reality.

That diagnosis is dangerous and no amount of video games or people speaking on tv have anything to do with it.

(didn’t even know they still had text based games)

Every text based game ever written still exists and most can still be found on the internet. Usually they are free to play.

Yeah, it’s no more violent then reading a book about WWII.

I’ve been playing ‘violent’ video games since I was ten with the original Mortal Kombat and I plan on playing some more tonight. If anything, they can only make you violent if you’re already crazy, most of the time probably not even that.

For all his interest in “grammar construction” he makes errors in writing that would have gotten him a big red F in grade school sixty years ago.
