In several dozen cities nationwide, the population actually declined significantly as residents presumably began to flee the region’s toxic financial atmosphere, or perhaps in some cases, even held off on having kids due to a lack of resources.

Cleveland may be typical in some respects of the other midwest cities, at least, in that many of the people leaving the core city have remained in the region, increasing the population of neighboring counties.

And of course most of those leaving will be the adult wage earners of childbearing age. They're still having kids, they just aren't having them in the central city so much.

This trend has been going on for many years btw, even during the "Boom" times of the 90's.

New Orleans was a sh*thole long before the hurricane. In fact the best thing that ever happened to that place was the hurricane.

If you removed the illegal aliens from California, the whole state would have a negative population growth.

Unfortunately, much of the trash from New Orleans wound up in Texas. Great for New Orleans, bad for Texas.

Vallejo is in Contra Costa County near the edge of San Francisco Bay. When my parents lived near there, old naval ships were mothballed in the bay.

If you can’t make it work after pushing your entire welfare queen class off on Houston, there is indeed no hope. We gave you every imaginable advantage. Took your refuse and deposited it our backyard just because we love us some nice racially dysfunctional coonasses. Sorry guys. I lost all respect when you greeted the refuse with shotguns at the bridge out of NO and into Plaquemines and forced Houston to take them. You guys are white punks. Sorry. I have street cred on this subject. Mother was a massive Hammond racist and my family hails from there. It never advanced past the George Wallace white democrat pissedoffness phase.

Figures it was democrats who done us in here in Houston. NOLA democrat racists. Yeah I’m not bitter my kids high school experience was turned to shit by NOLA incompetence after Katrina.

Should have tried to do something with these people instead of warehousing them with liberal welfare. NOLA is a complete and utter failure of a city.

“But Detroit 1-8-7 says on every episode that Detroit is coming back. Hollywood wouldn’t lie to us, now would they?”

They have used it to make war movies. Although plans to remake Robocop have been scrapped. That is probably a good idea, seeing that the first one (made 1987), which took place in a future Detroit seemed be way ahead of its time.

“No surprise with regard to New Orleans, which may never recover fully from the hurricane.”

They’ve recovered from the hurricane. What they have not recovered from is the damage caused by the corruption which led to the flooding.

But hey, lets rebuild a coastal city on a site below sea level. What could go wrong?

You could add NYC to that list. Penn Station smells like a homeless shelter. I can’t tell you how disgusting it is to walk through there in the morning. The streets and subways are filthy. The city is definitely not like it was during “Giuliani time”.

“No surprise with regard to New Orleans, which may never recover fully from the hurricane.”

Following the hurricane many “non paying” residents were bused away to other cities from the Superdome “shelter”, with no return ticket.

Unfortunately, too many Clevelanders and Pittsburghers have landed in Columbus and turned it a darker shade of blue. This city was candy apple red 20 years ago.

For all those who collect city, county, & state pensions, charge a surcharge if they move from the areas that provide that benefit to go live elsewhere. The union retirees often go to places that are cheaper & have less taxes. So to put a hefty surcharge on the fleeing pension monies from the city taxpayers that are forced to pay them. Same goes for the high property taxes for schools.
