Florida Lawmakers Encouraging Reckless Spending
Americans for Prosperity ^ | 2/18/2011 | American's for Prosperity

Members of Florida's Congressional Delegation and the Florida Legislature are plotting to circumvent Governor Scott's decision to reject $2.4 billion in federal funds to build a high speed rail from Orlando to Tampa.  Unlikely bedfellows were made today when a group of 26 State Senators, including ten democrats and led by high speed rail supporter Paula Dockery, sent a letter to Obama’s Transportation Secretary asking him to circumvent Gov. Scott and send the dollars directly to a state commission created in 2009.  They noted that politics should have no place in the future of Florida’s transportation, but they are doing exactly that with this political power play to quiet your voice and that of your elected Governor.

Governor Scott's decision to reject the federal stimulus dollars is backed by sound economic policy and represents the voice of fiscal conservatives - he doesn't think it is in the best interest of the state to commit to a project we can't afford down the road.  The Federal Railroad Administration has proposed a plan for Florida that will cost an estimated $11 billion to build, and it is projected that along with SunRail and Tri-Rail it will cost $100 million per year to operate once completed.  With unknown ridership numbers and a budget shortfall of $3.5 billion and growing, the state of Florida simply can't afford Obama and Dockery's High Speed Rail plan.

Please, use the form below and contact your state and congressional representatives to tell them that we can't afford to play politics over High Speed Rail.   {Contact form at link}

I was just talking to a friend of mine involved in this. This person says they don’t approve, but it’s in the constitution now and there’s going to be problems if it’s not started soon.

I don’t understand the legal stuff involved, but there apparently is going to be a legal problem.

Once they get the money in their coffers..it’s there...then they can defund the Rail again....and not return the money...it’s a slush fund they’re seeking...to pay for other things.

My G-d. We’re being run by the New Jersey Mafia. Love the part of the “New Commission” being formed separate from the FDOT but fully funded just the same.

They voted themselves all this money and be damned the taxpayers wishes, they’re getting it one way or another.

Big problem. The money ain’t there and now they owe the Don.

Hi friend,
Not sure if you are pleased with John Mica’s actions of late, but I am not! Is he developing RINOism?

In making his decision to ax funding for the high-speed rail, Scott used the authority of the referendum (s) that voted it down.

I emailed all of them and warn about how we Floridians who vote are watching and will make things right at election time. RINOism is not going to be tolerated in Florida, and we will take care to remove those who develop it.

Needless to say ALL the Florida State Legislator DEMS who vote for BO’s agenda need to be removed pronto!

On the national level, we only have 6 DEM US House Socialists to remove and Senator Bill Nelson. It must be done, and we can do it!

Thank you. I emailed my Representatives and the Governor as well. This kind of underground activity has to stop! Like I said, there is no money and these @sshats owe the “Don”.
