What if Qaddafi Wins?
Commentary Magazine ^ | March 13,2011 | Michael J. Totten

Posted on 03/13/2011 3:54:35 PM PDT by Hojczyk

If something doesn’t change soon, Muammar Qaddafi will kill his way back into power over all Libya’s territory. His forces are retaking rebel positions. The opposition is crumbling. And it looks like the United States and Europe will stand back and just let it happen.

This isn’t the first time an Arab tyrant has made a startling comeback after an uprising nearly swept him away. Saddam Hussein lost control of most of Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War, but tens of thousands of dead bodies later, he was firmly and ruthlessly back in the saddle.

If the only Arab rulers to be deposed by revolution are the nominally pro-American “moderates,” while the mass-murdering state sponsors of terrorism hang on, change indeed will be coming to the Middle East and North Africa, but it won’t be the change we were hoping for. One thing, however, will not have changed an iota: the Middle East will be governed by violence just as it always has.

If the Caligula of North Africa survives by fighting to the death and prevailing, he will surely inspire the other hard rulers to take the same strategy, especially after the humiliating and mostly nonviolent defeats of Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak and Tunisia’s Ben Ali. The killers of the resistance bloc — Iran’s Islamic Republic, Bashar al-Assad’s Baath Party in Syria, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Hamas in Gaza — won’t likely be overthrown by peaceful demonstrations but by massive internally or externally driven wars.

Are you aware your link is from an Iranian government operation?

Perhaps a better question would be, why are you attempting to spread Iranian government generated anti-U.S. propaganda?

Pretty soon the other Arab Leaders will get Qaddafi into a tent and buy him off. There will be no angry mob howling outside of Qaddafi’s palace gates nor a EUropean/Americfan victory lap.

The problem they face, is that bullets and bombs don't give a shit what people want, and the other side has a lot more of them.

And that is our problem how exactly?

Do you have a link to the UN preparing to give Daffi a human rights award. I do know that Libya was endorsed into their first year on the UN Human Rights Council this year.

That would only be fitting.

And it would be evidence that the UN is at least as daffi as daffi. (which we already knew)

What DU bull do you say he’s spouting? That unless we actually invade Libya, we ain’t got much ability to influence what goes on in the country?

OMGWTF!1!1 DU TROLL talk! DIE DIE DIE!

Right?

Or was it the ‘stop being the world policeman’ bit that sent the froth spewing?

Hate to say it, but “F” the world. We can’t afford to police it now and they sure and hell don’t appreciate it. So “F” ‘em. When the world turns bad, they can pay for our ‘policing’.

There’s been precious few countries in the world that have been our longstanding allies, and those are the only ones we ought to help. The rest better have cash in hand.

Hmmm, let' see:

The Col. is fighting rebels.

The Koran says something about rebels.

Seems they (rebels) should have their heads handed to them.

So, the col. is doing allah's work, by following the Koran, and smiting rebels.

yeah, it looks like the rebels are going against the current..

Time to step back, let them hash it out. Those that become free would have earned it, and then know the cost.

We SHOULD stop the mass murder, because that is who we are (or used to be).

Elaborate, please.

Totten’s not making much sense

Too many conservatives are not making any sense regarding Libya. Who do they believe comprises the majority of the opposition to Qaddaffi? (who has been shown to be remarkably compliant when he is smacked around.)
