A lawyer for Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund, filed papers late Wednesday for a new bail application to get him out of Rikers Island, where he has been in protective custody and under a suicide watch.

The housekeeper, 32, whose name has not been publicly released by the authorities in New York, was scheduled to be one of several witnesses before the grand jury Wednesday, people briefed on the case said. The panel is expected to vote on whether to indict Mr. Strauss-Kahn, 62, a prominent French Socialist, by Friday, when he is due back in court.

Mr. Strauss-Kahn has a television in his room, and has access to an adjacent day room with a television. He is entitled to an hour of exercise outside, but it was unclear if he took advantage of it on Wednesday, when a driving rain fell in New York for much of the morning and afternoon.

To bad BJ Clinton isn’t in office.
I’m sure he could have helped spring the guy.

Adjacent day room? He's got a suite! He's got a cell in the Sofitel wing of Rikers! Who knew?

I agree. Plus they share the same guilty expression.

How much you want to bet the lawyers spring him and he flys the coop?

How much you want to bet that, after he splits on a private jet, he's welcomed as a hero back in Paris, and goes on to beat Sarko in a landslide?

They should put them together in the same cell. Bernie just might punch him out!

Offer to give him bail as soon as they return Roman Polansky. Then don't let him out. Shouldn't be to hard to fool the French. Then if they still want this guy back, they can gives us a call in 30 years, just like they've been doing to us with Polansky. They could share a cell, and fight it out over who's fault it is that they're there.

Perfect cellmates. Bernie could romance ol’ DSK with a little toilet bowl-brewed prison wine before permanently making him his jailhouse honey in exchange for protection, 10 ciggies and the occasional helmet polish.

Then we’d have to send Dog the Bounty Hunter to Paris to bring him back. I’d pay to see that.

Bon voyage. If he gets bail, he’s gone.
