A blog post for the CDC posted only days ago, "Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse."
The goal of the tongue-in-cheek blog, is to draw attention to disaster preparedness. Do Americans have the basics in the event of a terror attack, an earthquake or a hurricane? Yes, even for zombies?
"We were on the cutting edge of the housing market crash and with our first child we started looking at our finances seriously and decided that borrowing 100 percent for the house we couldn't afford," said Amelia resident Chris Taylor.
Chris and Amy Taylor aren't really worried about zombies. They are, however, concerned about something much more likely happening. The U.S. dollar crashing.

Bears repeating.
A running gag, and a central theme throughout the film, is the list of rules Columbus comes up with for surviving in the zombie-infested world. By the end of the film, his list has thirty-three rules; only some of them are mentioned. A series of promotional videos starring Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg expanded on the list presented in the film.[6]
In a deleted scene on the DVD, Columbus presents an alternate rule number 2 titled "Ziploc Bags".[14]
Yea, if something like this happens it’s gonna be the hardest on the most vulnerable in our society. I believe along with physical preparedness, we HAVE to and most importantly prepare spiritually. What we can’t take care of, God can and will. I just keep remembering Jesus feeding the 5000(and that was just the men that were counted) with a few loaves of bread and a few fish. With 12 baskets of leftovers picked up after everyone had eaten. He gave us the power through the Holy Spirit to be able to do the same thing. Jesus whole ministry was a teaching lesson for us. He was showing us what to do. Here’s how and I’m leaving you the Holy Spirit so you can.
If something catastrophic happened that affected a large portion of the country, FEMA would not be able to handle it. Look what happened during Katrina. Where I live is so far away from everything FEMA would never make it up here. I’m not trusting the government to do anything. I will trust God and what I can do myself only.
In this day and age, who can tell???
I’m prepped for a good amount of time. My “mistake” is that I talk about it at work so others might prep too. The end result has been people openly mocking me/laughing right in my face. Now if things do go south, my supplies will likely be targeted and stolen.
My personality is to help people and I can’t stop myself from trying. However, not only am I not getting positive results, I’m actually getting negative results. It’s a crazy ol’ world.
Yeah, I read that quote 3 times. I think he means to say that borrowing 100% was something that they could not afford.
After seeing the devastation in Joplin, people are fools for not being prepared.
Sure, a tsunami or major earthquake is not likely to hit in the midwest, but they obviously have their own natural disasters to deal with.
I’ve heard this is a new tactic for gangs of looters and thugs to rob a place. The workers can’t take on the whole bunch of them at once and they can act so fast that they can cause extensive damage in just seconds.
Why anyone would want to live in a city any more is beyond me.
They’re more and more infested with subhuman animals. Sunday morning I happened to hear a propaganda piece on TV about how wonderful living in the cities is. People are healthier, more eco-friendly, yada, yada, yada,....
Of course, they were looking at people who had lots of money to live in nice, upscale, safe places. Cities are not paradises. Cut the food supply and it’ll revert fast enough and the metropolitan paradise they’re gushing about will rapidly become a hellhole.
” people who had lots of money to live in nice, upscale, safe places. Cities are not paradises. Cut the food supply and itll revert fast enough and the metropolitan paradise theyre gushing about will rapidly become a hellhole. “
Yeah - those ‘nice, safe’ gated communities will offer little protection for the “I’ve got mine” crowd (including many FReepers) when faced with tens of thousands of starving people - many of them women and children.. (Something that the Keyboard Kommandos around here never seem to take into account..)

“....a major earthquake is not likely to hit in the midwest.....”
Unfortunately, a giant quake in the midwest IS possible.
In late 1811 / early 1812, the New Madrid fault in Missouri erupted.....two or three great earthquakes were the result.
The ground motion awakened Thomas Jefferson at Monticello and caused church bells to ring as far away as Boston.
All has been quiet for the last 200 years, but a repeat great quake or two is a possibility on the New Madrid. For starters, St. Louis and Memphis would be in ruins.
Millions of people will not. Chance favors the prepared, but even the best preparations will be insufficient if the USA collapses. The whole world will follow suit.
I know about the New Madrid fault line. However, it still is not as likely as in Japan and CA. They experience far more flooding and tornadoes so that an earthquake is relatively not as likely. I should have been more specific.
...but without the gate code they won’t be able to drive their cars in without damaging them and getting a ticket!
If money is worthless and millions are unprepared or if a weather disaster blows away or otherwise ruins all your supplies, just what good are things like PMs? What will we trade them for and from whom?
I was talking yesterday with a friend who has a successful small business. They face new challenges daily from OSHA, their Workman Comp policy, health insurance policy and recently have reason to believe that their political activity is impacting their ability to get contracts and not just ones from the Federal Government. For the first time, she is wondering if we will even have elections in 2012.
She is very pessimistic that money will be a worthwhile commodity and she and her husband are trying to get their workers to understand preparedness in terms of skills and all of us being in this together. They are emphasizing fishing, hunting, gardening, canning, alternative communications and stockpiling ammo and tools. This is the first time I have heard her speak at all in these terms. Like most of us, she is limiting her discussions to those she can absolutely trust. Networking has recently become a focus for several folks I know.
There is a lot of quiet prepping going on.
There you are. Their friends laugh at them but they'll be knocking on his door if they lose their jobs. In a crisis, they'll be busting down his door.
There’s also an article around here this morning about a tornado hitting a liquor store and out came the zombies taking everything they could.
