We had plenty of heat 50 years ago but nobody had air conditioning so you got used to it and it didn’t feel as hot.
Winters are milder than they were 50 years ago, in places like NJ, Iowa and mid-Atlantic states where I have lived. Last summer was record heat for mid-Atlantic area, and we have just had the earliest over 100 degree days in a century.
