Pointed at us now doesn’t mean it was pointed at us then. We’ve made several trips around the galaxy since then.
Might not have been pointed at us then, but like shooting any moving target, it was planned from the beginning. :)
actually relativity renders the use of now and then moot in this case, because now and then are essentially the same for those purposes
