Someone commented on Palin’s remarks about establishment politicians which most pundits took to be aimed at Perry, but it turned out that when they ask regular people who is the Republican establishment politician, most reply “Romney”.
In the joking that followed the panel decided that was because Mitt “looked like” an establishment politician.
Chris pointed out that Romney has run and won only once and has only served one term in office, having lost election(s) while Perry has been in for decades with something like 9 wins...
Finally Chris said that if the looks matter and Romney has lost election(s) that he must be the FAILED Republican establishment candidate.
He was clearly joking and laughing and I'm sure he didn't mean to stop pimping Romney at Perry's expense, but he DID link the words “Romney” and “Failed” which I liked.
unlike all the others Sarah is certain to follow through on her intentions. If you read her books you will see that she is tenacious in her efforts to battle corruption in government. She WILL walk the walk. The others, you can't be certain at all.
He wants to sell his new book and we all know who reads the most books...
I also think that all of them (except Marxine) are trying NOT to look quite so anti-American as they usually do since they see how that is paying off for Precedent Sparky.
I saw it, and the Today Show protestor was OUTSIDE. The camera panned to the outside, and the protestor was holding up the sign through the studio window from outside on the street.
Could NOT believe that NBC ended that great man’s interview with that shot.
Oh wait. I CAN believe it.
When push comes to shove and most indys and all pubbies enter the voting booth it won't be much of a contest. Are you better off than you were 4 years ago? Who do you want creating energy for the future? Who do you want handling the economy? Who do you want representing the US abroad? Not real tough choices for most voters.
We will win,it wont even be close and zero will go back to Kenya where he belongs.
She also called for 0% down so unqualified borrowers could own homes, among other policies that aided in the housing crisis. Read Reckless Endangerment by Gretchen Morgenson and Joshua Rosner. They cover the the collapse and the decades of decisions and corruption leading up to it. Reading this book really solidified my support for Palin for President because the whole system is corrupt. The Democrats are the most culpable but Republicans let it happen.
In the final analysis when you get in the voting booth and have a choice between a full fledged marxist destroying the country and Sarah palin the voice issue pales somewhat.
Of the the nearly 1,400 comments on the Live Palin thread from yesterday (by my last count last night), I don't recall anybody being concerned about her voice. People were motivated, excited, and optimistic about her MESSAGE!
Sorry, but when I read comments like this, it's just embarrassing. We're losing our country, an this strong woman is offering solutions and hope. Her voice will not be factor except to those who have PDS and don't like her to begin with.
Many writers at the WSJ are anti-capitalist and often write of the wisdom of government solutions. I also would venture that most writers at the WSJ have NEVER managed a business, created a business, nor had to meet a payroll. They have little understanding of the business world.
Be that as it may, the Journal isn’t running for president and that certainly isn’t the background or merits of the man who is. High praise from an influential voice gains Huntsman nothing but well deserved attention.
We’ll see how Romney stacks up, but at least it’s better than anything so far from the rest of the GOP Presidential field.
Great post, you are right on track as well.
The Republicans must present more than opposition to Obama. They must have coherent ideas articulated in a simple, forceful manner by a credible candidate.
Halting, high pitched voices do not sound forceful and undermine the aura of credibility.
Seriously, do you think that George. H. W. Bush or Bob Dole would have defeated Carter in 1980?
Well said Art, if the voice was what mattered Cain would be winning in a landslide.
This is more of the any reason is a good reason if your not interested. Pretty petty stuff, since most of her supporters hear passion rather than too high a pitch and she is much improved over 2 years ago.
Technically, no woman would be able to cross that threshold of a deep commanding voice. Kinda reminds you of the needs to study the issues argument.
Pray for America
Most people don't fall in love with Marxist dictator types.
Sorry, but you need to go and check out the Palin Speech thread from yesterday. The tone of her voice was NOT an issue. People were jazzed because of her message...get it?
Sorry, but the only people who make her voice an issue (she is a female...remember?) are people who dislike her to begin with. Funny people can never seem to hit her with bonified policy issues. Oh wait, I forgot...she resigned as Governor! /s
Sorry, but this is a non-issue, and certainly wasn't on most people's minds yesterday after her speech. Criticizm of her voice is simply childish.
"Polls are for strippers and cross-country skiers"--Sarah Palin, 9/3/11
exactly.
Now they only sound empty and vacuous and dumb...not screemingly hostile and racists as well. ha.
“any guess to the question ?”
What the HE** are you babbling about? And would you please use a spell checker?
“MEET THE PRESS (NBC): Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Los Angeles.
LOL! Must watch this loon. Hope she embarrasses David Gregory. “
Just now starting to watch the re-air. Considering the other panelists on with her, Waters is probably there purely for comedic value!
LOL is right :-)
When my wife and I finished watching her last night (multiply this by many, many millions more), we looked at each other and said: “Wow...this speech was awesome...she's taking on not only Obama and the Dems, but the GOP establishment as well!”
We saw strength and conviction yesterday; her inflection, pitch etc., never even entered into the equation. I'm certainly not saying that presidents shouldn't try and become good speakers...they absolutely should; but a person's voice is their voice. Lets also factor in she was speaking at a live, energy filled event in an outdoor forum. Most of the speakers were having to constantly adjust their volume, tone, and other vocal factors.
Some here seem to be saying: “Palin’s voice could cost her votes should she decide to run...” Like somebody is going to seriously be thinking: “Hmm, I know Obama’s destroying the country, but Palin, who's offering solutions and hope has too squeaky a voice for my liking. Hmm, yep, I'm going to have to vote for Obama.”
The only people who will make Palin’s voice an issue are folks who already have an issue with her.
By-the-way, great piece this morning...enjoyed reading it!
