US Defense Chief: ‘Arab Spring’ to Sweep Iran
Arutz Sheva ^ | 7/9/11 | Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

Posted on 09/07/2011 2:01:27 AM PDT by Eleutheria5

It is only a matter of time before the Arab Spring uprising reaches Iran and overthrows the regime, according to U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

The former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director said that the reform movement in the Islamic Republic is learning from the mass demonstrations and protests in Egypt, Syria, Libya and Tunisia, where all of the regimes' leaders have been ousted or are facing the danger of losing power.

Asked by television interviewer Charlie Rose if the Arab Spring movement would reach Iran, Panetta replied, "Absolutely. I think we saw evidence of that in the last election in Iran, that there was a movement within Iran that raised those very same concerns that we're seeing elsewhere.

"And I think in many ways, it's a matter of time before that kind of change and reform and revolution occurs in Iran as well."

The regime of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who was re-elected two years ago in what opponents said was a fraudulent ballot, brutally suppressed demonstrations. Hundreds of people were killed, and thousands were injured, tortured or simply “disappeared” after being arrested by Revolutionary Guards and riot police.

Panetta admitted that although countries have to consider possible political backlash of supporting protest movements, "We should try to take every step to try to support their effort but at the same time…analyze each situation to make sure that we do nothing that creates a backlash or that undermines those efforts.”

Panetta did not predict when the Arab Spring will blow into Iran, but stated, "The fact is when people decide that that moment has come, that's a moment when tremendous change is about to happen.

"And I think it's true, not only in the Middle East. It's going to be true in Iran as well."

1. "Arab Spring" refers to Arab countries with majority Arab population. Persians are not Arabs. Arabs are not Persians. 2. They already had a Persian Spring back in 1979. It brought in the Ayatollahs. 3. They already have a long-standing student protest movement against the corrupt theocratic totalitarianism that plagues Iran, which has received zero support from the present POTUS. 4. Leon Panetta got out again. Where's his nurse?

Omoslem is using NATO to hand Libya/Egypt to the Moslem Brotherhood.

I doubt Omoslem will touch Iran, since it’s the kingpin of Omoslem’s new caliphate.

Man, that's deep.

Ha! That dudes off his meds. The "Arab Spring" that is sweeping the middle east is backed by Iran...and is turning the rest of the middle east INTO Iran.

These people have no concept what is going on here...maybe they should read Psalm 83 and get a clue.

What, young Muslims in the suburbs of European cities telling their imams to go fly a kite? The situations are not identical, and Europe is not going to fall to the Muslims.

Would like a big bowl of whatever he is smoking, please.

The people already tried the uprising. Hope and Change had arrived to DC. The entire world rejoiced. The free peoples of Iran sprung into the streets. A women was shot on video. The regime clamped down. Hundreds shot and tortured. Where was the great Hope and Change machine ?

Too busy selling guns to the Mexican Drug Cartels perhaps ?

There will be no hardening of US policy toward Iran as long as Jarrett is Obama’s babysitter.

3. They already have a long-standing student protest movement against the corrupt theocratic totalitarianism that plagues Iran, which has received zero support from the present POTUS.

The socalled "Student protests", one that is most notable, was in 1999. It had no support from the US, the West, or any Arab or Western media - the latter most likely thought popcorn, beer & a pizza w/ extra ham on top. Funny, how those gov'ts in the west like to support the mullahs' regime, who apparently don't like ham or bacon. Has the whole charade been about ham/bacon or beer at all?

the reform movement in the Islamic Republic

That's different to "student protests" of 1999 in Iran. Or, any "student protests" in Iran so far. Though, some of the "students" were "reformists" as well. BUT, what are they wanting to reform? Islam, OR "Islamic" Republic? "Reform" in an Islamic country ruled by a bunch of diehard Islamics is ludicrous at best; it's BS.

2. They already had a Persian Spring back in 1979.

There was an "Islamic Spring" back in 1979 in Iran. To name a few, I guess we could ask Jimmah Carter, Zbigniew Brzezinski, William Sullivan (Carter's ambassador to Tehran during the Shah's era), and even NYT, which, at the time, according to Amir Taheri's book "The Persian Night, p. 163, said: "Many consider this revolution as the most beautiful moment in Islamic history".

What did the mentioned American luminaries all had in common & found enticing about the "Islamic Khomeinist Spring" prior, during & just after 1979? There will lie a clue for many today about Obama administration angle regarding Mullahs' Iran.

And, funny no one talked about "reforming' the Shah's gov't, or the monarchy back in 1979.. Did they?!

Student protests didn’t end in 1999. It hasn’t gotten anywhere, but it hasn’t ended, either. The Ayatollahs have no compunction whatever about gunning people down in the street. I’ve seen pictures.

Didn’t say it ended; but the most notable student uprising was in 1999. — Points were: 1) student and/or other anti-gov’t demonstrations/uprisings in Iran have repeatedly occurred, over the past 32 yrs. 2) western gov’ts have not provided any meaningful or tangible support to any anti-regime uprising in Iran since the Khomeinist regime took over in 1979.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta must have slept through more than a decade of uprisings and protests, which began at least as long ago as the Clinton administration. He must have been too busy with his work to turn the US into a single party state. Thanks Eleutheria5.

Lip service. In 2005, the US was too involved with Iraq "nation building". And, Condi was trying to scramble support from the Mullahs' regime in Iran, for the US invasion of Iraq. It distinctly appeared that Condi tried to appease the regime in Iran thereafter. Too sad that the whole thang had to get to a point of asking for support for Iraq, for the remainder of GWB's term as President, from Mullahs' regime in Iran.

The Western New World Order powers brought Khomeini into power in 1979 through that CFR plant Jimmy Carter. Next step was to level the playing field of any strong established leaders like Mubarrek and Khaddafi. The NWO wouldn't make such radical moves if they didn't have their own people waiting in line.

It looks like the NWO has made a deal with Islam, that is why the EU brought in 53 million Moslems into Europe. The EU leaders are letting the Moslem run roughshod over the European people. What are they aiming for? Look up the Mediterranean Union which is an extension of the EU and is now in the works. This is about a world empire. These people are out of their minds with lust for power and they believe they are invincible.

Last few yrs I’ve repeatedly heard about NWO (New World Order). I am yet to fully understand what the purpose & objective of that is. Seems a very strange concept to me - since it has brought chaos to the ME & in fact the world.

The New World Order has been around for a while. After World War I a group of powerful people began the League of Nations which was supposed to bring peace to the world. This did not last very long but after World War II the new version of the League of Nations — the United Nations took form and has been very successful. Along with the United Nations, the World Bank and the World Monetary Fund (I think that is its name) came into being.

Many of the top financiers and industrialists including the Rockefellers, Rothchilds, Morgans and others have been trying to have a world government, another name for this would be a world empire, but they never call it that. The European Union is another big step to a world government since the EU is a government that is above the national governments so this is a form of empire as well. What these globalists want to do is create regional governments such as the EU all over the world and then these regional governments will be rolled into a world government.

Thanks for the explanation - very interesting. So, the new “regional gov’ts” in the ME presumably are meant to be Islamic ones? That’s the direction I’m seeing.
