So, now we can DRILL FOR GOLD!.......................
To: Red Badger
Is there any doubt as to why mankind values gold so highly? It is an ALIEN metal, too.

One of the documentaries on gold stated that all the gold ever mined
would fit in the lower third of the Washington Monument.

I read that it could all be formed into a cube 88 yards per side.

Subsequently, geological processes formed the continents and concentrated the precious metals (and tungsten) in ore depositsOh. "Geological processes". Hmmm.

...there are enough precious metals in the core to cover the entire surface of the Earth with a four metre thick layer. Dibs!

Nice theory.
How about another. Gold settled out to it's depth while settling was still possible. It is/or was at a certain depth circumferentially. As one land mass causes another to lift, that layer gets closer to the surface, at times leading to simply picking it up.

“Ultra high precision analyses of some of the oldest rock samples on Earth by researchers at the University of Bristol provides clear evidence that the planet’s accessible reserves of precious metals are the result of a bombardment of meteorites more than 200 million years after the Earth was formed. “
I wouldn’t know; I wasn’t there at the time.

Oh. "Geological processes". Hmmm. Maybe God really did make the world in 144 hours, to look exactly the way it looks now in 6000 years after creation.
And that's OK.
BUT ...
If you want to go out in the field and look for places where it will be profitable to dig up rocks and refine metals from them, theories about "geological processes" that take billions of years are more helpful.
