AND NOW . . . amidst billowing clouds of fragrant, aromatic first- and second-hand premium cigar smoke. . . it is time for . . . that harmless, lovable little fuzz ball, the highly-trained broadcast specialist, having more fun than a human being should be allowed to have, from behind the golden EIB microphone, firmly ensconced in the prestigious Attila-the-Hun chair at the Limbaugh Institute of Advanced Conservative Studies, serving humanity simply by showing up, and he’s not retiring until every American agrees with him, do NOT doubt him, with shrieks of joy at the mere mention of his name (that’s Rush, for those in Rio Linda),the Mandarin of Talk Radio, with talent on loan from G-d, at the cutting-edge of societal evolution, with half his brain tied behind his back — just to make it fair, the all-knowing, all-caring, all-sensing, all-feeling, all-concerned Maha-Rushie! America’s anchorman, truth detector, and doctor of democracy. A Real Man, a living legend, a way of life. Commander in Chief of U.S. Operation Chaos. Chief Waga-Waga El Rushbo of the El Conservo Tribe. Chief of the Patriotism Police. Leader of the Conservative Movement. A Weapon of Mass Instruction. El Rushbo (a little Spanish lingo, there). He is the man who is running America (you know it and I know it). He knows the Democrats like every square inch of his glorious naked body. He is ready to do what he was born to do—that’s host. Get ready to what you were born to do—that’s listen (and post your comments on the Rush Limbaugh LIVE Radio Thread).

Read my mind. Wondering if the increased incidences of cervical cancer isn't just one more unintended consequence of another misguided Perry policy...

Hey, Rodguy—I don’t listen to Rush that often. Has he been shilling this hard for Perry all along?

If so, I think we may have part of an explanation for Perry’s polling so well with people actually knowing so little about him. I don’t think it will be sustainable once people see and hear more about him for themselves, however.

What? Mexicans in Texas?

Not defending Perry, but I think that phenomenon predated Perry’s governorship by just a bit . . .

I think Rush has referred to Perry as “his ideal candidate”.

I can’t believe it myself, but I am warming to Santorum again. I see his staying ‘in’ as an attempt at VEEPdom...and he is an ‘attack dog’ type...so I can see that and (quite possibly) support it.

Strange times.

Now...anyoneone else get a weird visual with Barry waving his little Bill. That made me laugh...

I admittedly quit listening to Santorum about the sixth time he mentioned that he won his election in Pennsylvania. lol.

Unfortunately for Newt, I’m not sure if I can ever move past the betrayals of the past and wholesaly accept him for what he presents today.

Romney looked weird turning to face whomever was talking. I know he was being polite, however, it was offputting.

Perry got flustered a couple of times and it shows.

Cain never gets enough camera time to matter, though what he says is always good and spot on.

Bachmann did well on some questions but really kept this pious attitude the whole time that left me....unsettled. I really did not appreciate the constant use of “I” “Me” etc. in every one of her answers.

Huntsman and Paul are losers. Huntsman is more “moderate” than Romney and Paul is a lunatic. Both are non starters.

Overall, I thought everyone but Huntsman and Paul came off with really good answer here and there; but ultimately I don’t think anyone hit a grandslam.

I have never seen a decrease in the cost of health care.

You'll get no argument from me.

As a direct pay insurance customer, I was priced out of health care this year when my individual premiums exploded to $600/month because of "costs."

I have family working for the state and that family of 5 has the same provider, an identical plan with the same co-pays but premiums of just $17 monthly for family coverage. If they were direct pay, like I was, they'd be paying thousands per month.

A real problem with health costs is market distortion. As an individual or small business owner, I don't have the negotiating power of a state or large business. This is one area where Cain really spoke to me in last Wednesday's debate when he spoke of the struggles he found as head of the national restaurant association. Regulations prevented them from leveraging the group to get a plan appropriate for their industry, leaving individual companies or restaurants to fight separately.

if people think gardasil ‘protects’ them from hpv, they are wrong - it only protects from a few of the most common strains

hpv mutates fast - there will never be a vaccine (produced the way gardasil was produced) that will protect against all strains of hpv

maybe its the false sense of security gardasil gave texans that explains the big number of cases in texas

I can only go by what I was seeing in the audience. It’s just an opinion though.

Over 100 Strains Of HPV - No Cure (2005 article)

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women worldwide. Approximately 500,000 new cases are diagnosed annually worldwide, 83% of which will be in developing countries (estimated 10,370 new cases in the US in 2005). There will be an estimated 273,000 deaths due to the disease annually, three-fourths of these in developing countries.

Vaccines

There has been a lot of talk about vaccines for HPV, but they are all still in development or in clinical trials. Merck and Glaxo SmithKline appear to be the first companies ready to apply for FDA approval (applying in early 2006 and 2007 respectively). Their vaccines are targeting the two most common HPV high risk strains, 16 and 18, which are responsible for 70% of cervical cancers worldwide. An important piece of patient education regarding these vaccines, is that they will still need to have Pap tests, as there are still eleven other HPV high risk strains that can lead to cervical dysplasia or cancer. The pharmaceutical companies have found that the vaccine is less effective if they add more strains to it, therefore they feel targeting the 2 most common types is best. Information available from ongoing trials report the vaccine to be about 90% effective in preventing HPV infection. Researchers feel the vaccine would be best given to adolescents ages 9-12, who have not yet been exposed to the virus. Early trials did not include these age groups, but are currently ongoing. In addition, it is not yet known how long the vaccine will protect women from HPV. Regardless of these issues, it is clear that this could be a major step in decreasing cervical cancer mortality in lower income countries.

Bottom line: PAP tests in the US have been VERY good at finding differences in the cervix if these tests are performed regularly. Almost all private insurance policies cover the cost of the pap tests. The Texas Legislature wanted to go after HPV with a vaccine for what reason then?

BTW, I know two women whose lives have been permanently changes because of the vaccine.

I definitely think there is still time and room for others. I would LOVE to see Palin jump in. But then the million dollar question remains...can she actually win?

As a lawyer, Bachmann should have either not repeated it until she had done some research, or she could have related it as anecdotal and protected herself by saying that she would research it and get back to Greta with her findings. And then she should have followed through with it.

That trust factor, sitting on the couch with Pelosi...

I agree about the trust factor.

I wasn't bothered as much by sitting on the couch with Pelosi as I was with Newt's knee-jerk endorsement of Dede Scozzafava in New York.

About the couch, I will say that it wasn't the appearance of supporting global warming that I objected to, it was the idea that Newt was legitimizing Pelosi (I suppose it was supposed to be one Speaker to another) at a time when we were trying to demonize and marginalize her in advance of the health care legislation that got to me.

Your comment got me to thinking. Rick Perry does remind me of Bill Clinton.

And it seems certain that Rush doesn’t know that Perry also opposes the use of the E-Verify system by Texas employers. Perry is much worse on illegal immigration than Rush currently realizes.

Yep, and is Rush the only one bringing up the funding for Social Security being reduced in that payroll tax cut?

This caller and others are missing the real issue of the Gardisil issue. It’s the idea that favors may have been given by Gov. Perry to profit a political friend aka crony capitalism. Would he have issued the mandate if a friend wasn’t involved? I doubt it which leads me to question his ethics and judgement.
