SHORTLY AFTER AMERICAN NAVY SEALs raided the Pakistani city of Abbottabad in May and killed Osama bin Laden, General Ashfaq Kayani, the Pakistani chief of army staff, spoke with Khalid Kidwai, the retired lieutenant general in charge of securing Pakistans nuclear arsenal. Kidwai, who commands a security apparatus called the Strategic Plans Division (SPD), had been expecting Kayanis call.
General Kayani, the most powerful man in a country that has only a simulacrum of civilian leadership, had been busy in the tense days that followed the bin Laden raid: he had to assure his American funders (U.S. taxpayers provide more than $2 billion in annual subsidies to the Pakistani military) that the army had no prior knowledge of bin Ladens hideout, located less than a mile from Pakistans preeminent military academy; and at the same time he had to subdue the uproar within his ranks over what was seen as a flagrant violation of Pakistans sovereignty by an arrogant Barack Obama. Pakistan = backstabbers
Get out of Afghanistan and announce that, from now on, the US will back India 100%
Pakistan is definitely a problem. Still, what cooperation they give us can be useful. But you have to watch them very carefully.
It’s almost like two governments in one. One of them wants to be our ally, or at least cooperate with us, but the other is Islamist.
Simple answer -- you cannot make Pakistan a friend of the US. They hate us and will always hate us as infidels. you cannot be friends with the devil.
I was referring to Santorum’s answers during the CBS debate.
