Posted on 11/14/2011 4:49:05 PM PST by katiedidit1

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain was asked a simple question by the editorial board of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: "So you agreed with President Obama on Libya, or not?" The response, nearly five minutes long, is painful to watch:

Truly awful. It doesn’t have to change anyone’s mind, but simply admitting it would at least be honest.

Good point. I believe Obama’s position was:

Do nothing, congratulate winner, take partial credit.

This is what happens when you have a candidate who doesn't know the questions in advance and who doesn't reply in 30 second soundbytes. Cain's response was fine. He wasn't privy to the situation, didn't have all the information, so he doesn't want to be caught out on a limb saying he agrees or disagrees with how Obama handled Libya.

Here's the thing: Do you trust Cain over Romney or Obama to handle situations like Libya if he's the commander in chief?

I do.

Very PAINFUL TO WATCH. Cain does not have a CLUE of what this job entails, we already have the 1st On the Job trainee, I am not ready for another try.

This stuttering is about the same as watching Obama stutter around, which was just shown in another thread.

And now, saying M.Bachman was Tutti Frutti Ice cream flavor. That is just disgusting and displays his Freudian slip disdain for women. You said you would get in trouble with that answer, YOU KNEW IT, but just couldn't hep' yourself, right? CUTE.haha NOT

BACHMAM equals Tutti Frutti? If in a one on one debate with Ms. Bachman, she would mop the floor with you on what she knows about any domestic or foreign affairs. You can only go so far on being Cutsey and 9-9-9ish. Gingrich already mopped the floor with you and he was nice about it, want to go for seconds with Bachman? rofl. Maybe you want to defer that question.

He wouldn’t know Libya from a mud puddle if he stepped in either. I’ll vote for Cain but I can see him needing a two hour nap each afternoon (as President)

Perry looks like a genius next to Cain...horrendous blunder on Libya!

I saw it. He took a few moments to collect his thoughts before giving an answer in a sit-down interview to a bunch of print journalists who are hoping to twist whatever he says against him. Just shows how desperate people are to get something negative on Cain.

If Cain forgets 9-9-9 then you can compare him to the guy who can't remember which federal departments his handlers want to eliminate.

The media seems desperate.

This isn't just the MSM, conservative media are all over this as well. These clips up are up at Hot Air, Michele Malkin, Ace, etc.

Not only does Cain flub in trying to answer a simple question about Libya, he gets the collective bargaining stuff completely wrong and comes out in support of public employees "right" to collectively bargain.

Herman is getting by on his skills as a motivational speaker - but on policy he knows practically nothing and he can't fall back on 999 for everything.

Yes, I expect the next COMMANDER IN CHIEF of the United States of America to be informed on issues such as Libya, Pakistan, Iran, Israel, etc. I do not expect anyone running to have been “briefed” but there is a lot of material out there on military sites, by John Bolton and others that I would have “boned up” on...serving as Commander in Chief is the primary duty of our president.

What isn’t with you Newtbots? You guys have been hiding under a rock for months for fear of being exposed as a RINO. Now you smell blood and think everyone will just magically forget Newt’s establishment and RINO ways (not to mention his own personal baggage).

I guarantee you. If Newt debates Obama, it will not be the clobbering you are hoping for. Newt would turn to his moderate-RINO crap in the General and lecture us that a “big tent” solution is the way to go. Maybe you can be swayed by debate words without substance, but many people are not. In the end, Newt has the same problem that Romney has, a lack of trust among the voters. And even with all the sentiment against Obama, if people cannot trust their candidate, they don’t vote for them. Just the plain truth.

“I thought Cain’s answers were perfectly fine. He seemed tired and stressed out, and obviously had a brainfreeze initially on the Libya question—but he recollected himself perfectly fine and gave a solid reply. That’s what counts.”

I guess he should not have stopped and thought about it before responding. (/sarcasm). I agree with you, I liked the response, and actually, I prefer someone who actually does some thinking when running for a public office. We have had far too much of people getting into office without thinking.

You do know that the EPA donated to Cains senatorial campaign in Georgia? in 2003 the EPA gave Cain 400 dollars.

Another case of brain freeze and trying to recover. I do think he’s not up to speed on foreign affairs and yes, I think Newt does have that knowledge and yes, I prefer Newt but that doesn’t mean I want Cain to screw up.

posting a video of our potential commander in chief (in his own words) is bashing?

I have no desire for a "brilliant" president who has a ready answer for everything. Been there. Done that. Didn't work out so well.

I want someone who loves the country, respects our institutions, and will stick with solid principles. He can hire advisers to help him deal with the specifics. The general stuff is far more important, and Cain is fine on that.
