I tried doing business in Ukraine. Everyone there has a pistol in their desk, and a car full of goons in their employ on the street out front. Threats and intimidation are routine. Armed intrusions and forceful takeovers at the office are normal. Spying on your competitors and peers is normal. Half of the people are drunk all day. It is like Russia with no rules.

Ukraine is drifting closer to Russia, which is naturally happy with the turn of events. As soon as Russia joins the WTO, there is no barrier to Ukraine joining the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union, which will happen soon enough. And for Ukraine’s elites, Europe’s eurozone crisis, have pushed the initiative to join the EU off for the next several years.
So. Is now to having “Fast and Furious’’ in Ukraine, da?
