Medal of Honor Recipient Sues Defense Contractor, Claims Company Sold Sniper Tech to Pakistan

Two months ago, Dakota Meyer was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama for his service in Afghanistan, the military’s most prestigious award. On Monday, Sgt. Meyer alleged that a defense contractor has called him mentally unstable and a problem drinker, ruining his chances for a job in the defense industry.

In legal papers filed Monday, the Marine claims that BAE Systems, where he worked earlier this year, retaliated against him after he raised objections about BAE’s alleged decision to sell high-tech sniper scopes to the Pakistani military. He says his supervisor at BAE effectively blocked his hiring by another defense contractor by making the claims about drinking and his mental condition.

Sgt. Meyer’s complaint is likely to pose a more difficult challenge for BAE, a British company with extensive U.S. operations, than a typical employment dispute. In the September White House ceremony, Sgt. Meyer was hailed for braving enemy fire as he tried to save the lives of fellow Marines who had been trapped in a Taliban ambush.

On TV some guy was saying the company gave a demonstration or something but that none were sold/purchased. However apparently the company paid a 400M criminal fine for previous export violations. Not totally sure my terminology is correct but I am sure about the criminal fine.

“...after he raised objections about BAE’s alleged decision to sell high-tech sniper scopes to the Pakistani military.”

Does this violate the law of whichever country this company is subject to ? If not, well, the guy’s entitled to his opinion, but...

He may have a case on the retaliation. Companies have to tread really ~really~ lightly when it comes to what they say about former employees. Alleging a mental condition that costs him another job could cost them dearly.

The rules of International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) may have been violated. The State Department has to approve the sale and usually issues a license and DSP5 for export along with a list of provisos that have to be adhered to.

You ask: “Is Meyer correct? Does anybody here know?”

I’ll take his word for it. He’s a man of integrity and will act when he thinks it’s essential - even if against orders and likely to land him in hot water.

There are soldiers alive today because of that integrity.
The military left the ambushed troops under fire and denied them help - finally, Meyer disobeyed orders, grabbed some guys, jumped in a humvee and raced down into the battle - well, YOU watch what happened.

Yeah, I’ll take his word.

Here’s an eyewitness report of the battle where Sgt Meyer disobeyed orders and went into the battle to help the soldiers.

As is outlined in the story, it’s obama’s new ROE that left these - and other platoons being pinned down and killed - refused air cover and other aid - because the ROE gives all the advantage to the ENEMY!.

The media used to report, during the Bush years, daily on troops killed. Since the new regime - silence - And no one pays attention to the KIA’s that DOUBLED - in 2009 -the worst year of the war and TRIPLED in 2010 - and it continues.

Our troops have been reduced to ducks in a shooting gallery - and no says a word. And if YOU don’t know about these traitorous ROE - Shame on YOU. You’re AWOL in supporting our troops.

excerpt:
“U.S. commanders, citing new rules to avoid civilian casualties, rejected repeated calls to unleash artillery rounds at attackers dug into the slopes and tree lines — despite being told repeatedly that they weren’t near the village.

“We are pinned down. We are running low on ammo. We have no air. We’ve lost today,” Marine Maj. Kevin Williams, 37, said through his translator to his Afghan counterpart, responding to the latter’s repeated demands for helicopters.

Four U.S. Marines were killed...”

Hopefully, you have enough guts to listen to this>

and take a look at this chart

This Traitor in chief has much blood on his hands.

Yes indeed, and the troops need to be brought home, there is nothing over there for them to fight for.

BAE’s US operations may have neglected to observe US export restrictions. This is a major pitfal for international corporations.
