Democrats' Class Warfare Risks Loss Of White Working Class
Townhall.com ^ | December 7, 2011 | MICHAEL BARONE

Has Barack Obama's Democratic Party given up on winning the votes of the white working class? Thomas Edsall, the longtime Washington Post reporter now with the Huffington Post, thinks so.

Surveying the plans of Democratic strategists, Edsall wrote in the New York Times on Nov. 28 that "all pretense of trying to win a majority of the white working class has been effectively jettisoned."

Of course, an Obama campaign spokesman issued a prompt denial. No campaign wants any groups of voters to know that it has written them off.

But Edsall is plainly on to something. Obama campaign strategists have made it known that they are concentrating on states like Colorado and Virginia — states with high percentages of college-educated voters, young voters and minorities.

Obama carried both these states in 2008, even though Republican presidential candidates had carried Virginia in every election and Colorado in all but one election between 1964 and 2004.

Not all Democrats accept the Colorado/Virginia strategy. William Galston, a top domestic aide in the Clinton White House, has argued that the Obama campaign should concentrate on states like Ohio, with an older and more blue-collar population.

Only one Democrat in the last century has won the presidency without carrying Ohio, Galston points out. If John Kerry had run just 2 points stronger there in 2004, he would have been elected president.

And Ohio's demographics look a lot like those in Pennsylvania, which Obama carried by 10 points in 2004 but where he is now running behind in the polls.

But Galston's advice has been spurned, and perhaps that just reflects an acceptance of a longstanding reality.

They hate the white working class. In his (Obama's) utopia we'd all be arrested, our assets siezed for redistribution after we paid for our own incarceration up front.

Then all the systems would detriorate and fall into disrepair and he'd unite with Mexico to find people who can put new shingles on the Chicago estate to stop the leaks when it rains. The prisons would eventually become work camps to call on skills as neede for the rest of the enlightened and brilliant who "Fixed" our country.

Doesn’t matter the Dems will simply “Dig UP” the needed votes from the local graveyard on election day....... Then Dear Leader gets another 4 years to run this Country into the ground!

American universities should hold class for political science each semester for just one day. During that day they should show the movie "Idiocracy" and change the credits to Al Gore and let Oprah be the narrator. Everything else stays the same.

In a decade we'd return to something good and productive.

Give them a few more years of letting little brown socialists run the border and Texas will start voting like California. Then, there’s not enough reliably red states to make electing a conservative President even the remote fantasy it is today.

California was a red state when Reagan was elected, and it is no longer.

Zer0 will go down in history as the green president: green for the color of our money. Socialism fails when there is no more other people’s money.

What you say is true, but let’s not forget how absolutely worthless the GOP is in defending the interests of poor, working, and middle class whites.

When Ward Connerly got an anti-racial preferences ban on the Michigan ballot in 2006, where was the GOP? They were either running away from it, or actively opposing it. Fittingly, the GOP suffered a massive defeat that year while that initiative passed overwhelmingly.

When attempts were being made to put a preferences ban on the Arizona ballot in 2008, Obama of course opposed the measure. But McCain, surprisingly, supported it, but he never made an issue of racial preferences in his awful campaign.

What have several Republican administrations and Congresses done about the absurdity of disparate impact?

What have several Republican administrations and Congresses done about unending mass immigration? Instead of opposing it and trying to end, they have embraced it and made it worse, as with President Bush the elder signing Ted Kennedy’s ridiculous Diversity Visa program into law.

Have you ever heard any Republican talk about the insane and growing collision between racial preferences and the mass immigration of those who will be eligible for them?

Has the Republican party fought against the rise of our new official religion — the worship of Diversity? Of course not, they have embraced it and their rhetoric about the magical and supernatural wonders of diversity are indistinguishable from that of the Democrats. It’s nauseating, and depressing.

And let’s not forget our probable nominee, the dreadful Gingrich. When Newt was trying to become Speaker, he talked tough about ending racial preferences. But when he actually became Speaker, he did nothing. In fact, he decided that opposing affirmative action didn’t fit in the agenda of the modern GOP he was trying to build. In other words, he didn’t want to be called names. That one of the worthless debate moderators, or the unimaginative Fox News drones never ask him to account for this is not surprising, but why haven’t any of his primary opponents? Oh yeah, it’s because they are worthless on this issue too.

Why is this? Why does the GOP refuse to protect and champion the interests of people who are actually inclined to vote for them, even on something that has proven to be overwhelmingly popular like banning racial preferences? Some of them of course hate whites just like leftists do. For others, maybe they are stupid enough to think the GOP can actually survive a demographic situation where whites no longer have a strong majority. Maybe some are just afraid of being called names.

Whatever the case, there is no reason to think that the interests of poor, working, and middle class whites will ever be put above the demands of Diversity by either party.

I first heard the updated version of "Diversity" in the company I worked for in 1987. The CEO was banging a hottie, married her, and then promoted her to "Executive Vice President of Diversity". The $500 million dollar company had to file for bankruptcy two years later. It seems diversity efforts in a company where women held most management positions and many of the directors were very talented while black, were rather destructive.

Personally I feel we all need a dose of Dickensonian lives to obtain the cure to what ails us. Life is not fair. None of us are equal in ability or skill. The other person always gets the promotion you deserved. The layoff hits you harder than the next guy. You know the answers but nobody listens. Love is forever. Women cheat more than men, they just are better at it. If you want a friend get a dog.

Risk losing ‘white middle class workers’? Don’t think they care. All they have to do is conduct their ‘10 minutes of hate all things Republican’ and the white middle class workers will be conditioned to follow the dog whistle commands.

I am not sure the “working class” (white or otherwise) ever supported Obozo. He had the support of the minority racists, the labor unions, the communist/socialists, the fascist businessmen and the useful idiots.

But, when the “white working class” cannot find a job, the working class as far as Obozo is concerned is LOST.

FUBO!

When the white working class finds out they’re subsidizing THIS:

...then you’d better BET obamao’s losing their support, and he should lose every “ethnic” group that works for a living.

“He has a white working class following???? lol”

He did in 2008, but they’ve seen the light now.

Politicians play groups off against each other, but the fact that it is practically illegal to hire a white man has left Obama in the unenviable position of trying to convince a lot of unemployed whites and their families that he doesn’t hate them with a passion.

Good luck with that.

A lot of the white working class voted for Obama out of desperation; today they are more desperate & marginalized, while for 3 years millions of Hispanics have poured across the border to make the white working class vote irrelevant.

I know plenty of whites that voted for him; they were desperate, and McCain had nothing to offer. A lot of whites had those stupid “Obama” bumper stickers, until a few months after the election when they realized he couldn’t care less about them.

I know some whites who intend to vote for him again, though a fraction of those that had previously.

“Give them a few more years of letting little brown socialists run the border and Texas will start voting like California.”

That’s exactly what’s happening, though it doesn’t benefit blacks at all. Illegal aliens are here to replace the children that Americans (including blacks, especially since the 1996 welfare reform) can’t afford to have. A number of blacks at my job have one child, while a lot of the Hispanics have three or more. What was aimed at whites is causing collateral damage; Hispanics are replacing blacks in the workplace, government, even prison.
