According to the latest poll from Public Policy Polling, former House speaker Newt Gingrich holds just a one percentage point lead over Congressman Ron Paul among likely Republican voters. In a Republican presidential contest that to date has largely been defined by the range of dramatic pendulum swings, a new poll coming out of Iowa just three weeks before the Iowa caucus reflects the rise of the Libertarian-leaning former Texas Congressman Ron Paul, vaulting Paul to a statistical tie for first place with national frontrunner and former House speaker Newt Gingrich. The poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling, positioned Gingrich with 22 percent of the vote and Paul with 21 percent. Romney placed third with 16 percent, according to a report by the Daily Caller.

Looks like Ron Paul might surging. So they say. It is the PPP, which is liberal. I am not Paul fan, but that means his anti-Gingrich message might be working.

There is a subset of Democrats that love Ron Paul so that PPP pool makes me suspect.

I think it means the people in Iowa are as crazy as the Loon Ron Paul.

There is a whole world of hurt that can be put on Ron Paul with his goofy foreign policy statements. He has hardly been touched to date and that will change if he gets any traction.

We’ve come to this . . .

Thank you, voodoo Republicans. Twenty years of hyphenated conservatism and sweetened NWO in lieu of principles have brought us to this.

Thanks ever so much.

Ron Paul vs Newt is definitely antifederalist vs federalist. I’d have to go with Ron Paul, warts and all.

Call me crazy, but I would vote for *anyone* on the Republican ticket if it means flushing Zero out of office.

Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich in statistical tie in latest Iowa poll

And neither one would be my choice. Alas, the vagaries of politics.

Look at the PPP poll. The partisan breakdown is huge. Among Republicans, it’s Newt Gingrich 25, Ron Paul 17.

Among Democrats: Ron Paul is their first choice at 28%

All of the Harkin idiots will be voting for RuPaul. Iowa is a joke when they allow open primaries.

Fear not, fellow Freeps.

PaulBots always figure a way to swamp polls, straw or otherwise. They really don’t believe in “one man, one vote”.

Winning to them is everything, and every poll I’ve seen in the last few years strongly suggests that Paul is way, way overrepresented when poll results finally get compared to reality.

Another article I’ve read from The Daily Caller suggests that Newt Gingrich is losing TEA Party support, as he should. Newt is a big government progressive. Newt stands for everything the TEA Party stands against.

There’s nothing wrong with half of what RP says and I’d submit that’s whats attracting Iowa voters (who are probably more anti-DC then the media would tell you.) Most are probably ignorant of his left wing nutcase positions which are less known to the average person.

I read the Redstate article. It’s actually very, very bad news from the gop’s perspective. From the article:

“Look at the PPP poll. The partisan breakdown is huge. Among Republicans, it’s Newt Gingrich 25, Ron Paul 17. Among Independents it’s Ron Paul 35, and Newt Gingrich in fourth at 12. Similar story among Democrats: Ron Paul 28, Newt Gingrich in third at 18.”

While redstate might be right in that Ron Paul doesn’t win the Iowa caucus, that poll is showing a big draw amongst independents. If Ron Paul runs third party, which is a strong possibility, he is going to do very well amongst independents. While I personally don’t think he would win the general election, he would definitely impact the final result.

Worse, it shows that Newt Gingrich does not have much appeal outside of the gop. At least in Iowa.

Democrats like Paul probably because of his anti-Israel stance.

-—”Ron Paul vs Newt is definitely antifederalist vs federalist. I’d have to go with Ron Paul, warts and all.”-—

You would honestly go with the man who believes Israel may be behind 9/11, that America is the root of all problems in the world, that every act of terror that happens to us is America getting our come-uppins, and who endorsed a presidential candidate in 2008 who ran on a platform of disbanding the U.S. Military?

How much are you willing to sacrifice for legalized drugs, Huck? All of America’s security?

latest poll from Public Policy Polling

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/:

-->December 13, 2011
Gingrich, Allen, Cuccinelli up in Virginia

You can add Virginia to the list of states where Newt Gingrich has a huge lead in the Republican Presidential race. He's at 41% there to 15% for Mitt Romney with no one else in double digits. Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry at 8%, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul at 6%, Jon Huntsman at 3%, and Gary Johnson at 1% round out the field.

There has been some major movement in the Republican Presidential race in Iowa over the last week, with what was a 9 point lead for Newt Gingrich now all the way down to a single point. Gingrich is at 22% to 21% for Paul with Mitt Romney at 16%, Michele Bachmann at 11%, Rick Perry at 9%, Rick Santorum at 8%, Jon Huntsman at 5%, and Gary Johnson at 1%.

Among Republicans Gingrich leads Paul 25-17. But with voters who identify as Democrats or independents, 21% of the electorate in a year with no action on the Democratic side, Paul leads Gingrich 34-14 with Romney at 17%

Romney's fading popularity. When PPP last polled the state in August his favorability was a +18 spread at 50/32. He's now dropped 12 points to only +6 at 46/40.
