Thanks blam. Half of my chromosomes come from each of my parents, but less than a quarter come from two of my grandparents, and so on; of my 4thgreat-grandparents -- there were 64 of them -- at least 18 contributed zero chromosomes to me. And yet, they are my ancestors, and had they never lived, I would never have been born. To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list.

This is interesting, but all so confusing. How is it that we are not descended from all who came before? Perhaps some more than others, depending on how many cousins and cousins once removed married each other.
