Any questions?

I agree with this proposal wholeheartedly.

Historically, exploration and colonization has lead to some of the greatest increases in national wealth. Recapturing a lead in space can only help this country.

Great. Love it. Nothing wrong with appealing to folk’s dreams and ambitions, even their fantasies, so long as you aren’t asking them to pay for your own without giving them a choice in the matter. Involvement in such a plan would excite me, as I’m sure it would many others.

Actually thought the details he gave here on the idea showed a very considered and well-thought-out approach to this topic: it’s clearly something he’s reflected very carefully on. Enormous potential and opportunity in this field for so many aspects of business and industry.

Have to admit I’m just a tad worried what the MSM may make of this in their write-ups, though. I can see some of the ridiculous headlines already...

It won't happen because NASA has forgotten how to build Saturn V rockets or their modern equivalents.

Good. I’ll have somewhere to move when our government collapses under its massive debt.

Just a thought- is this right wing engineering that Newt supposedly deplores?

Are all you moonbase supporters going to step up and say “raise our taxes” or do you want to borrow money for this also?

Colonization of the moon or Mars would be pointless and ruinously expensive — unless you’re an aerospace contractor, of course. Human life does not prosper over long periods in zero-G. There are no resources out there that can be economically harvested. Science can be conducted far more economically and extensively if life support for human flag-wavers is not required.

These adventures are very exciting, especially for those who stand to make a buck from them, but in large measure they’re a distraction from real and pressing business at home that needs taking care of.

Better than a new war is about all I can say for it.

Oh yeah, Florida, NASA, pander. Well Newt is a good politician. If it was Arkansas, it would be chicken farms on the moon. I’m getting too cynical, I need to go away. I’m sure I’ll get a second on that.

How about we go to the moon again after we pay off our debts? I dont fancy borrowing more money at interest from the Chinese to fund their millitary expansion.

I thought Bachmann's <$2.00/gal gas was a much more reasonable, practical and achievable objective.

When Ceasar pays off all his debt, then he can have some monumentally cool play money. As of now, there is no technology outside of geosynchronous orbit that makes the cost of getting there profitable.

If we could send all the liberal/progressive/commie to the moon, pow zoom, I would definitely support a moon station.
It would be ideal for them. No oil or carbon output.

He would probably get more political mileage if he would say that the first order of business in being president would be signing off on the Keystone Pipeline project.

Newt should rail against the 1969 space treaty with the UN that has handicapped our use of space resources ever since.

I think if the plans are designed towards eventually making it pay for itself, it's a good idea.

We just need to have more scientists and public sector companies involved, and much less politicians and bureaucracy overseeing it all.
