I understand your reasoning. I am in a Leo state of mind. Been doing it for a long time. But I see the pressure on this judge. We all know Z is not a threat. The judge wants keep a leash on him. Probably for his own good. And I don’t blame him. If I was Z, id probably want to be on monitoring..
Monitoring is a *lot* better than having to report periodically, true. I have a hard time seeing Zimmerman as being thrilled about it, unless LE is using it to keep a close watch on vigilantes.
I’d be afraid someone else may get the codes, and use them to track him and kill him. He has big money on his head (not $10K as constantly repeated in the news, but a cool million).
Monitoring, restrictions on alcohol, and loss of Second Amendment rights would make sense if George Zimmerman were any kind of threat to public safety. I don’t deny that judges may reasonably impose those restrictions. I disagree that they are justified in this case. Given the threats made against Mr. Zimmerman, monitoring may only lead to someone finding and killing him. Taking away any chance for him to defend himself means that those who find him can kill him without risk. He shouldn’t spend his pre-trial period drunk, but if a beer or two will help him relax in this difficult time, his having a beer or two will not threaten public safety.
