Elizabeth Warren's 'Native American' claims: if a Republican, the media would call her a racist
The Telegraph (UK) ^ | June 14, 2012 | Tim Stanley

Imagine if a Republican candidate claimed, confidently, that she was part Native American. Imagine if she had actually used that identity to have herself listed as a minority at Harvard, qualifying her for special treatment and celebration as proof of how diverse and progressive her department is. Imagine if, many years later, it turned out that her claims to Native heritage were dubious and, when pressed for proof, she offered her “high cheekbones.” Oh, and she once contributed a recipe to a Native American cookbook called “Pow Wow Chow” (that may even have been plagiarised).

He’s Sicilian. But Ms. Warren cannot handle the truth of her real heritage. Her great-great-great Grandfather was in the Tennessee Militia that rounded up the Cherokees for the Trail of Tears. So to use an analogy, Cherokee=Jew, Trail of Tears=Holocaust, Tennessee Militia=Gestapo. No Mr. Warren having a relative fall out of a Guard Tower at Aushwitz is not the same as losing a relative in the Holocaust.

Let her have her “pipe” dream.

It just makes her look that more stupid - (spelled in her adopted language “Stew ped”.

Hmm, no, conducting the Cherokee to Oklahoma hardly equates to running a death camp ~ but among all the factoids involved in this quite complex issue that's one of the more weakly supported.

Here's where you start from ~ Warren claimed that her folks had a mixed-tribal background. One was part Cherokee (of any of the 3 bands ~ each with ~ different rules ` in Oklahoma we may presume). The other was a Delaware.

Lawsuits and political lobbying over the last century and a half reveal there's some "bad blood" there!

As a consequence, with her particular tale, as lightly sourced as it is, the Cherokee claims must not be accepted unchallenged, although simply ignoring them would be as useful.
