Speculation has surrounded a story published last week by the left-wing website AlterNet, purporting to tell the story of women who claimed Mitt Romney advised them in the 1980s, in his capacity as a church leader, against having abortions.
There is only one problem: the story is not new, and Breitbart News already discussed several aspects of the tale in January 2012, including the false claim that Romney had been insensitive to women in his congregation. One woman he had counseled against having an abortion, and who carried her baby to term, told Vogue in February she was grateful to Romney for his help, though she later decided to leave the Mormon church.
There is perhaps reason to believe that this is the tactic Allred is preparing to use against Romney--and that she may be doing so in coordination with the Obama campaign.
In a speech on Friday in Virginia, President Barack Obama unveiled a new attack against his rival, accusing him of Romnesia (Romney + amnesia) about his past positions. The media treated the word as an innovation.

That’s IT? Counseled women against having abortions? Really?
Weak beer - weaker than the haircut thing...
I do believe in Romney we may have the sqeakiest clean nominee in modern times. (I recall some folks who disapproved of Reagan’s divorce)
Huh. That’s it? If Allred had proof that Romney had counseled a woman to HAVE an abortion, there might be something here. But as it is, I’m not seeing anything Team Obama can use. Unless Allred has convinced one of the women to portray Romney as a monster when she “tells her story”, which is certainly possible.
Either way, though, I don’t think this would be much of an October Surprise, if true.
Allred and ALL DEMS....KILL MORE OF YOUR BABIES....50 MILLION ISN"T ENOUGH!!!!
Romney will win in a massive Reaganesque landslide if this is what the Obama campaign is pinning it’s hopes on.
Of this is their ammunition, it will earn Romney even more conservative votes. Bring it.
As a woman I am insulted that this is
“THE ISSUE” Obama thinks is a big deal to me.
Dan Rather was unavailable for comment.
I fail to see a “surprise” here....October...yes.....surprise.... No
Seriously, you can look up the LDS materials on their internet websites and the exception thing is LDS policy ~ you can do abortions but you are supposed to engage in prayer and counseling first ~ presumably with a proper church authority ~ e.g. your local bishop.
There are some people who imagine there's some RTL basis to the exception thing but it looks more like an excuse to kill babies to RTL folks.
Somebody want to jump in here and tell us why LDS has that exception thing? Maybe you'd like to tell us why any child should face execution without trial ~ no doubt some think that's OK, but these aren't RTL positions.
Oh, and don't bother arguing that 'Well that's better than Obamugabe' because you get the same thing either way ~ dead babies! It is necessary for Romney and his followers to actually adopt an RTL position first for any of them to legitimately claim they have an RTL position. Very simple to do in fact ~ swear off killing babies.
Congratulations...Joel Pollak reads Free Republic. We have all known about this for nearly a week since Drudge’s Tweet.
Maybe the children who were not aborted will speak out.
If there are women who were “talked out of having abortions” by a church leader acting in his spiritual capacity, I wonder if their fetuses (ie, their adult CHILDREN) will also appear with Gloria to chastise Romney?
GASP! Actually there would be a scandal had he advised them to have an abortion so there's nothing here.
“Hi! This is Gloria Allred and I am about to announce the LAMEST October Surprise in political history. In fact it is so lame it is actually laughable. Plus it not really a ‘surprise’ since Matt Drudge has already given the world the heads up on it.”
In their book, the end always justifies the means.
Oh my, Commie Allred is firing up the Ambulance. This one may get a couple extra states.
Pray for America
Conservative Media should blast a headline: ROMNEY SAVED WOMAN FROM BREAST CANCER 30 years ago!
I believe the angle they are going to try and use is the woman’s life was in danger if she carried the pregnancy and was advised to have an abortion. I don’t remember where I read it here at though, but that she had the abortion any way after Romney advised her not to. That way they can go after Romney’s ‘life of the woman’ abortion exception is a lie-thus ‘war on women’.
URGENT MESSAGE TO ROMNEY CAMPAIGN!!!
Find out who this baby has grown up to become and feature this adult as a human being who would have been lost if allowed to have been aborted. Look how angry leftists became over TIM TEBOW. No apologies for life!
Oh, horrors of horrors!!!!1! A leader in the church advised women not to have an abortion!!!1!1!1
Well, that does it. I'm voting Obama, now!11!!!!
