Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney not only thought Bain Capital-backed Staples stock was a risky investment, he never exercised all of his options to buy it, according to new testimony that is devastating to Obama backer and celebrity attorney Gloria Allred's bid to use a 1987 divorce and subsequent appeals to torpedo Romney's campaign....
At issue is the 1987-1988 divorce of Staples founder Tom Stemberg and Maureen Sullivan Stemberg. The ex-wife believes that during the initial divorce settlement, the value of Stemberg's Staples stock was undervalued and her take was cut as a result. Sources said that the former Mrs. Stemberg believes that Romney schemed to devalue the price of Staples stock to help her husband.
Despite earlier reports, Romney, then a leader at Bain, a major Staples investor, did not testify in the first divorce case - as there was no actual divorce trial. He did testify during one of Stemberg's efforts to re-litigate the divorce settlement in later years.
In October 1991, Romney was called to testify about the valuation placed on Staples in 1987 during the original divorce settlement. At the end of three days of testimony Romney was asked about his own opportunity to buy up Staples stock before the IPO. He was asked if he had purchased the full amount he was allowed to buy - essentially "maxing out" on buying up Staples stock pre-IPO.
Romney said he didn't because while he still believed that there was a chance that the company could take off, there was also a chance that the company could fail.
A source familiar with the case told Secrets, "This disproves the Allred allegation completely. He put his money where his mouth was."

“Mittens should do something uncharacteristic and ask her when was the last time she got laid.”
By a human?
More importantly, didn’t the ex wife SUE HER OWN ATTORNEYS in the mid-1990s for their advice to sell the stock?!?
This is a desperate, pathetic attempt to create a distraction that the Romney Campaign then must spend a couple/few critical newscycles countering (and financial mumbo-jumbo is hard to get across to the “low-information voters” that are still in play).
The scary thing is that given the current electorate, this sort of thing was a reasonable tactic with a decent chance at success.
Allred is an idiot. Trump called her a “third rate lawyer who doesn’t know what she’s doing.”
You conjured up some horrific visuals with that post.
IOwnTheWorld.com periodically offers pictures of a Sad Obama sitting at different places. I just wrote them to see if they could put together a new photo showing a Sad Obama, and a Sad Gloria.
Do tell...
As much as I wasn’t for Mitt Romney during the primaries, (Newt and Santorum were my first choices), it becomes clearer why he was the best to run against Obama and David Axelrod. He obviously has such a squeaky clean background that the Obama camp is having to dig really deep to find even a scintilla of “scandal”, and so far they appear to have come up empty. I don’t know if Newt and Santorum could have withstood the dirtiness of the Obama campaign digging up dirt on them. Especially Newt. While Newt’s faults have been reported on, there may be others we are not even of which we are not even aware.
Not cool, I just ate. Seeing the hildebeast sneer at me like that right after dinner...Not cool.
Really? Put yourself in his shoes. There was a growing list of women who suddenly remembered an event years ago. Apparently they were "remembering" in a steady stream, and all remembering to allred and no one else.
The reason Cain dropped out was that they ripped his message away and forced his total efforts to be dedicated to fighting innuendoes. If it were you, what would you do if it started to affect your family?
Then how bout the CBS George W Bush letter? If some sharp eyed Freeper hadn't blown the issue open about the font, we don't know how far that would have gone, but it couldn't have been good for W.
There is nobody who is as big a threat to the Dems as an honest and moral man.
nope, the reason he dropped out, it appeared to many, was that there was life to the story. I heard the lady on talk radio , not just to Alred like you wrote...and she was very level headed. There were also late late night phone call records and such. I think Cain underestimated what his past might do to him.
Now I know why Allred’s nose keeps getting more crooked and more crooked. She keeps trying to stick it up obama’s butt.
Look at even today Cain is sort of out of the picture...because there was some reality to the claim of one of the women and Cain denied it all. Not believable. sorry, but I was going to vote for him myself.
They’re all going in the wave. Alred, obama, biden, frank, pelosi, chicago, iran, obamacare, obamaphone, obamaloan, epa, welfare without work, the whole friggin’ mess of BS we’ve put up with for six years.
Sorry 'bout that, but it was the most flattering recent photo of Hillary I could find :-)
