Hagel wins confirmation to lead Pentagon (Cochran, Johanns Shelby, Paul voted YES)

Chuck Hagel won confirmation Tuesday to become defense secretary over objections to his views on Middle East security and the administration’s handling of an attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya.

On a 58 to 41 vote, the Senate confirmed the former GOP senator as four Republicans joined 54 Democrats in approving Hagel, ending a nearly two-month battle that included an unprecedented filibuster against the nominee.

The four Republican senators voting in favor were Thad Cochran (Miss.), Mike Johanns (Neb.), Richard C. Shelby (Ala.) and Rand Paul (Ky.). All 41 no votes came from Republicans.

The vote marked a foreign policy victory for President Obama,

FWIW, I called his offices, and wrote him two salty letters, plus a nice one.

RE :”Rand voting against cloture but for the nomination doesn’t make much sense to me, but since when do Paulistinians make any sense?”

Is there any reason to believe that Paul disagrees with Hagel?

I am more annoyed with McCain and Grahamnesty than him. It was their make believe stand against Hagel. They shoot with blanks.

... a few times when Ron Paul would vote against a bill he started because of the pork and other ammendments added to it that had nothing to do with the original bill.

and many bills he added pork to and then voted against so he could say he always voted against earmarks -- knowing full well the bill would pass with his pork projects included ...even without his vote.

Phony as an Obama trillion dollar platinum coin.

I love how Cruz has Cornyn voting conservative. Cornyn used to vote with McCain and Graham but all of a sudden he does what Cruz does.

Do you really think Cruz is having that big of an impact on the old fart?

It is demoralizing. I’ve tuned out of politics more than ever before in 15 years. The election managed to stun me and its like we are in Bizarro World with this sycophantic media and government everywhere being statist and against us.

I listen to rush every day and he sounds as demoralized as we. No one who gets it has any power to do anything, and everyone with power is against us.

I believe in Gd and one day the truth will out.

>> Of the Paulitinian Pauls, voting to confirm an Israel hater. I guess Jr. Paul did not fall from the tree. Can’t say I’m surprised. <<

His fanboys will be along shortly to explain to us that the other three GOP senators are dirty filthy RINO traitors when they vote to confirm Hagel, but when Paul does it, gosh darn, he's a heroic tea party warrior who has really good motivates for doing so.

The McPain twins just made it a lot harder on all of us. They were supporting the Filibuster because of a personal pique with Obama, yet were willing to let the nomination go forward even though they still insisted he’s incompetent. How can I make the case the GOP isn’t a bunch of political hacks when I don’t believe it myself? They *are* hacks.

As I posted in another comment or two, Hagel was McCain and Grahamnesty's pet peeve more than anyones.

I look at it a little different.

At this stage I am not up nights worrying about Hagel dissing Bush and the Iraq surge 2007 and 2008. But that was those two's #1 issue. And you can see how they fight the battles they care about most. This is how they take a stand on their own principles.

I think the reaction to Cruz is having an impact on Cornyn.

RE :”This is how they take a stand on their own principles.

They (McCain and Grahamnesty) are pro-amnesty neo-cons.
WOT/defense/pre-emption is their major issue and they want amnesty to generate more volunteers to the army for boots on the ground, as did GWB.

These are their MAIN issues(principles), not taxes and spending (McCain voted against the Bush tax cuts) or even deficits although they may be down on their list.

So Hagel turned into their worst opponent. And they took a meaningless petty looking symbolic stand against him that they never planned on holding to. This is how they fight battles they think are important(they gave Kerry no opposition)

Hagel is not at the top of my list of peeves, but he is their's.

When conservatives wake up and see the republican party is chasing the democrats to the left, and won't stop moving left until they see we refuse to follow, nothing will change. If we keep letting them drive the train, we will end up where THEY want us: right behind the left. They forced their guy down our throat and gave us a choice of romney or obamb. That was no choice for many conservative, hence we lost. We are like the girl who will keep taking her cheating boyfriend back. Unfortunately I voted for romney and will never do that again. I did not trust him, did not like the things he DID (not be be confused with what he said when he was running for president) He went against everything I believed in but I knew had I not voted for him, would have been blamed for Obama by my husband and many here for years.

If a third party doesn't rise up in the next year or so, we can forget the constitution and living free. We will be owned by the government.

Who is John Galt?

Hey, the worse Zero's second and final term is, the worse the Demwits will do in 2014, and the better chance that the next Reagan will emerge in 2016. Yeah, I threw up a little when I typed that the first time (over on FB).
