As Jerry Brown Touts California In China, Its Citizens Pack Their Bags
Forbes ^ | 04/12/2013 | David Davenport, Contributor

While Governor Jerry Brown is in China touting the state’s rebound and recovery, many Californians are busy packing their bags for a move to Texas, Nevada or Arizona. Why? Because it appears that the once-Golden State may finally be overpriced, underperforming and ungovernable.

Is it possible that one state has managed to top every 50-state category on the following shameful list?

Highest taxes (gasoline, sales and top bracket of income taxes)

Lowest bond rating

Highest poverty rate (at 23.5%, the home of 1/3 of those in poverty in U.S.)

Highest unemployment rate (tied with Mississippi and Nevada at 9.6%)

Highest energy costs

Worst state to do business (as judged by Chief Executive magazine 8 years running)

Most cities going bankrupt

Prison system so poorly run it has been taken over by a federal judge

And California has managed to do this during its rebound, its good years, according to Jerry Brown who, if not Governor Moonbeam in his second coming as the state’s leader, is clearly not in touch with life on Planet California.

Although there is argument about this, there shouldn’t be: people are leaving the state. The data shows that there has been a net out-migration from California to other states since 1990, balanced for awhile by immigration from other countries.

But by 2005 that had eroded, too, with birth rates in the state also dropping at an incredible rate. Over the past two decades, a net 3.4 million people have left the state. And this is before the 2013 increase in income tax rates which prompted even liberal TV talker Bill Maher to complain that “it’s outrageous what we (millionaires) are paying” in taxes, “over 50%,” warning “liberals, you could actually lose me.”

California has been on a steady downhill slide ever since Moonbeam was elected in the 70’s, remember, Reagan left office with a huge Budget Surplus and the State was booming. Then Moonbeam SPENT all of it and Buried the people in never ending Debt, and of course lets not forget that it was Moonbeam that gave us the Public Employee Unions in California.

So sad.
California looked so good when we returned from overseas in 1961.

The odd thing is housing prices are skyrocketing around here. They go on the market and get multiple offers for more than the asking price the first weekend. Word is it’s out of state investors driving it.

He has another worry, perhaps the greatest worry.

The state of New York is heavily advertising about the wonderful advantages of moving businesses there. If that campaign is a success and the trend starts as business moves from California to NY, Brown has a real problem on his hands

The one mistake Reagan made (and he later said he regretted it) was granting amnesty in 1986. That act turned Calif from the state which put Reagan in office into today's Mex-a-fornia. Now the current crop of re-pubicans, led by Juan McCave and Lindsey Grahmnesty are looking to do the same thing with the rest of the country.

As for me, no more voting for the lesser of 2 evils. There's either a conservative on the ballot or I stay home.

Especially depressing, since the cause was sheer stupidity (Moonbeam and his ilk) as much as crass venality (public sector unions).

Funny how NY is running those ads touting that lowering taxes helps attract business. WELL DUH!!

Now they want to create these phoney tax deals to bring back what they ran off?

If the pubbies had any balls they would use these ads against them.

Why, why, why can’t true conservatives get their act together and rally around ONE candidate? Is it pride, power, the overestimation of one’s leadership ability?

We need to start a WWGW do campaign. (What would George Washington do?) He wouldn’t cowtow to voting for the less of two evils.

In fact George Washington warned about putting party, state, and personal gain before the nation.

I know the feeling. With rich people fleeing California and New York to protect their wealth, Florida has become infested with moonbats.

Not quite. In California the issuance of bonds requires a ballot initiative. It is the people of California who have buried themselves in never ending debt.

The state of New York is heavily advertising about the wonderful advantages of moving businesses there.”

You are right.

Gee, with NYS having:

probably the most corrupt and graft-ridden state government in the US

a governor ramming through anti-human rights legislation to punish its own citizens

a track record of 67 years of a declining business climate

sky-high Medicaid costs

sky-high property taxes

sky-high income taxes

hostility to everything American

forced unionization and forced confiscation of wages for union dues

an increasingly leftist orientation among the remaining citizens

Do you think the NYS advertisements will be successful? Has NYS done ANYTHING to address the above problems? Of course not. Of course, everything is relative and if you are in the finance business in San Fran you might think a move to Manhattan is feasible—that is what NYS politicians dream about. However, its all about fleecing rich people and nothing about helping business or the citizens of Calif, NY or anywhere else.
