In the irony of ironies, the first democratically elected president of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mohamed Morsi, was overthrown on July 3 by the Egyptian military, ostensibly to save Egypt's fledgling "democracy." Doubtlessly, Morsi's organization, the Muslim Brotherhood (al-Ikhwan al-Muslimin), was in the process of dismantling any vestiges of democracy and installing an Islamic dictatorship. Yet the intervention of Egypt's military has produced a situation in which the Ikhwan claim to be the victims of a coup. Simultaneously, the disparate -- and desperate -- secular opposition have aligned themselves with the very military that only two years ago they helped bring down.

The short answer is yes. Between the US and Europe on one side and Russia, Iran, and perhaps China on the other, things in the Middle East will continue deteriorated as these powers fight for control.
Obama knew damned well that the Muslim Brotherhood would take over. That’s why he pushed and pushed and pushed to force out Mubarak—who was just as “democratically” elected as Morsi—only it was the generals rigging it rather than the Brotherhood.
Hard to pretend you are surprised, when it’s happened maybe a hundred times before. But of course most people weren’t paying any attention.
Could anybody actually tell the difference??
Obama wants to know whether or not it was a military “coupe.”
I'm not so sure on two fronts. Which side would the U.S. support? The Muslim Brotherhood is an Obama Favorite. To switch sides to support that evil "Military Dictatorship" would not be to his liking. But he can't side with Iran can he? Double, double, toil and trouble.
And will there be a real Civil War? I wonder. It would seem to me that the Military would welcome it as a way to cleanse the country of the Muslim Brotherhood. I don't really think the MB is going to walk into that trap. They are hoping that they can regain the support of the Egyptian people. I don't think they can. And I think they will pull back from a full shooting war with the Military.
What I would like to see is the banning of the MB from participation in the upcoming elections. That would be a bold step. Obama would have to give another speech condemning such action. It would put the MB on the defensive and would certainly test the willingness of the Egyptian people to abandon that movement. Will the Military take such a step? I doubt it.
Like Syria, if it’s Muslims killing Muslims, it’s a good thing. Keep ‘em too busy to come after us.
The ONLY source of relative stability in muzzie states is a secular or military dictatorship of some sort.
Otherwise, it’s muzzie democracy, which consists of “one man, one vote, one time”.
Not openly, but some evidence this is going on to an extent secretly. He has never offered support to Iranian resistance and his efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nukes are limp-wristed.
Remember Iran, like other Islamic countries, doesn't come with just one faction.

IMO, Yes, and the major powers, fighting for control, Egypt is a strategic country, will ensure it by fanning the flames of hatred and by supplying the needed support to keep it going.
Seems something wicked was created when we first sided with the mujahedeen against the Russians in Afghanistan. Since those days, there exists a connection between certain factions in the US and what we now know as MB, and those that they have influence with.
I think the MB’s going to lose Eqypt. The military isn’t playing games here. They also know that Morsi/Hillary planned a kidnapping in Benghazi and 0bama is feeding them the $$$$$ in the hopes they keep their mouths shut.
Most of the world is not capable of sustain a representative government.
As for civil war in Egypt — I hope it is a long and bloody one.

Obama is probably a card carrying member of the Brotherhood. I’m sure that he is terribly upset that Morsi was overthrown. The only ones I feel sorry for are the Coptic Christians.
To a muslim, democracy means one man, one vote, one time.
Well Mubaric’s overthrow certainly did. Thanks to Obama, Egypt that kept the peace accords with Israel for 30 years is now a total wreck.

Too bad no one in Washington, D.C. is smart enough to recall Huma Abedin and her family have very close ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. If the F, the B, and the I weren't too busy looking for Tea party terrorists, it could send a junior agent to ask her some questions.
