ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - George Zimmerman's attorney has told a newspaper that he plans to ask the state of Florida to cover $200,000 to $300,000 of his legal expenses.

The Orlando Sentinel says Mark O'Mara told the paper Monday evening that because Zimmerman was acquitted, state law requires Florida to pay all his legal costs.

Coming from a Florida resident, they should sue the prosecutor and the other individuals who pushed it, not the taxpayers.

I am happy for him albeit I live in Florida. I agree with you, they should get it from the personal accounts of Bondi, Scott and the prosecutor herself.

BTW, the NAACP presented his excellency with a petition of 1.5 million names of dopes who want the Justice department to prosecute Zimmerman for a civil rights violation. If they acceed to this demand, hopefully that starts REV II.

The article does not make clear that "legal costs" and "attorneys fees" are distinct. The application that is discussed in the article amounts to several hundred thousand for Zimmerman's legal costs, such as fees to experts, various court fees, travel expenses, the charge for an expert video animation, and so on. Zimmerman's attorneys fees and residual (otherwise unpaid) costs associated with his defense will run to well over a million dollars if not to several million dollars.

Zimmerman must look to donations and other sources to pay that, such as a possible book deal, his defamation suit against NBC, and perhaps suits against other parties. And, even at that, Zimmerman may still have to go into bankruptcy because he is unemployed and no doubt burdened by costs for security and other extraordinary and ordinary living expenses.

Thanks for posting the article.

What I found most odd was the last sentence.

To wit: “An after-hours email sent to defense attorneys was not immediately answered.”

I can’t imagine anywhere, any business, that you would not get the same exact result.

So.... why make the statement at all?
