The White House on Saturday said President Obama would veto the House GOP's latest stopgap spending measure.
It said Obama would veto the bill because of the inclusion of language delaying ObamaCare and eliminating a medical device tax, while faulting the House for not moving a simple funding measure approved by the Senate on Friday.
"Rather than taking up that legislation, the House proposes amendments that advance a narrow ideological agenda and threaten the nations economy," the White House budget office said in a statement.
"By including extraneous measures that have no place in a government funding bill and that the president and Senate already made clear are unacceptable, House Republicans are pushing the government toward shutdown," it said. "If the president was presented with H.J. Res 59, as amended by these amendments, he would veto the bill."
Before the veto threat, White House press secretary Jay Carney called the GOP measure reckless and irresponsible.
Any Republican who votes for the bill is voting for a shutdown, he said in a statement.
The House is expected to approve the measure Saturday night. The government will shut down without a deal on Tuesday.
In his statement, Carney criticized Republicans for repeatedly trying to attack the healthcare law, noting they have held more than 40 votes to defund, delay or repeal it.
The president has shown that he is willing to improve the health care law and meet Republicans more than halfway to deal with our fiscal challenges, but he will not do so under threats of a government shutdown that will hurt our economy, he said.
With their new bill, Republicans see a strategic advantage in turning attention to the Democratically-controlled Senate, and forcing vulnerable Democrats up for re-election in 2014 to decide how to vote on the ObamaCare delay.
"Its up to the Senate to pass it and stop a government shutdown, Boehner said on Saturday. But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) called the vote pointless.
Carney said ultimately, Republicans would be held responsible for a shutdown that seemed increasingly likely.
Republicans in Congress had the opportunity to pass a routine, simple continuing resolution that keeps the government running for a few more weeks, he said. But instead, Republicans decided they would rather make an ideological point by demanding the sabotage of the health care law.
Voting to keep the gubmint open is a vote to shut it down? Carney needs a vacation before his head spins clean off.
Why not delay Husseincare until after the next election - just like the RATS did?
Repubs responsible so let’s elect more lib/demos next year to continue giving “free” stuff to those that “can’t” work.
I wonder if he would try to veto articles of impeachment too?.../s
How’s this for an analogy. A man and a wife have a happy life together. Both work but they manage to spend all their income. The husband takes it upon himself to spend $250,000 for a very expensive car that he knows the family can’t support yet he wonders why his wife leaves him and blames her for the breakup of the marriage. Any others out there?
So Dingy Harry and The Won are shutting down the government. Bet the msm will be running that story all week..............
When you have the media in the palm of your hand, propaganda is easy.
I expect school and daycare funding to be cut this time around. Obambi has to reach the LIV to push his message across.
Still, there are going to be a lot of people who lost their insurance that will not be able to get into the pools now. Their employers will not restart a policy for one year. The GOP has to address that and quickly or it will be the lead story for months.
However, methinks he is too smart by half.
After a few days of shutdown, I expect the House to capitulate.... then guess what? The full force and the immense problems with this bill will cause a revolt, in 2014, the likes of which you have never seen.
UNLESS
OTrauma gets his 'Water Down The American Vote' Amnesty, OR, unless elections at the state level are as compromised as they are at the national level.
If either happens, there will be a full-on Nazi state by 2015, replete with death camps for conservatives. Further, Hillary will not be a candidate for 2016. No room for two leaders as Obama is coronated the Emperor of America.

Lame Duck waddling...
“By including extraneous measures that have no place in a government funding bill ...”
Measures that will decrease spending have no place in a government funding bill - OK, I get it. Good grief. Does he even hear what he says?
Stirring the pot is actually great fun!
My what a large er... file you have.

Because at the very least 150 Million Americans oppose it and a very large number have gotten off their butts to do something about it, one of which is calling, emailing, and faxing their senators to tell them they do not want it. Its called the will of the people. I know it hard to understand that concept working for a tyrant and all, Jay. Hey one day you will be able to sit back and tell your grandchildren (that’s if you’re not gay) that you were the mouthpiece of the AntiChrist and that he promised you that there’s a special place in Hell reserved for you when you die. Liberal children will love that bedtime story.
Yep, a short shut down, O ‘wins’ but my guess is that next Spring ObamaCare will need More money... That will be the next fight.
“Any others out there?”
Buy this magazine or we shoot the dog. (anyone have that graphic?)
Another bitch slapping for the narcissistic, pole smoking, punk.
Senator Dan Coats (IN-R) voted for this stupid bill — betrayed the Tea Party - betrayed the Republic — no longer has my support - just fired off a e-mail to him....I’m over these little middle school games that politicians are playing while the rest of us are suffering...the Obama Admin. was elected through fraud - and no one removed him - they keep driving forward with Socialism - and no one takes a stand except a small few...either these Wash elected leader remove Obama and his disastrous laws or they will have zero support from me...
Shut the gubmint down and nobody will notice.
I can assure you that some States will not participate.
