Iran, Yes. Congress, No. Obama Won’t Budge for Hardliners at Home
The Daily Beast's Politics Beast ^ | September 28, 2013 | Eleanor Clift

Posted on 09/29/2013 1:19:22 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

After a remarkable day for diplomacy, it was time to deal with the hardliners at home. Eleanor Clift on the president’s dangerous standoff with his domestic ideologues.

The contrast could not have been greater between a pair of diplomatic breakthroughs and the intransigence of Congress. Appearing in the White House briefing room Friday afternoon, President Obama said he had just spoken with Iranian President Rouhani, everything was on track for the nuclear issue, and the U.N. Security Council had reached a resolution that would ban Syria’s chemical weapons. Who could have imagined that negotiating with the Iranians and the Russians would be a more fruitful experience than working with the U.S. Congress?

With just three days left before the government runs out of money and must shut down, Obama stuck by his refusal to negotiate any of the terms the GOP is putting forward, from defunding Obamacare to avoid the shutdown, to a long list of demands that he said includes cutting taxes for millionaires and rolling back regulations on polluters, or else House Republicans won’t vote in the next few weeks to raise the debt ceiling.

“I’m willing to make a whole bunch of tough decisions,” he said, adding not all of them are ones his party would like, “but I’m not going to do this under the threat of blowing up the entire economy.” He called out the Republicans for “appeasing” the Tea Party on issues that have nothing to do with the deficit. And after the spectacle of Ted Cruz talking for 21 hours, the debate now moves to the House, where more than 40 self-styled Ted Cruzes have so far refused to budge from their hard-line position.....

If the Pubbies were Muzzies you’d see him negotiate.

... “but I’m not going to do this under the threat of blowing up the entire economy.”

He already did that, why repeat?

Strange use of terms.

I can’t see the metaphor behind “blowing up” the economy.

It is easy to understand. As far as Obama is concerned, the Iranians pose no threat.

We do.

The question to be asked is: “If it is in the Nation’s best interest to shut down the Government, then why are there only TWO Federal Politicians, Obama and Reid, loudly advocating shutting down the US Federal Government?

Obama has MANY reasons to shutdown the Federal Government such as:

1.) A headline grabbing story that will distract attention from the Impeachable scandals of:

Benghazi Massacre Dereliction of Duty by Obama as CIC;
Obamacare Insurance managed by the corrupt IRS;
IRS harassment of political opponents of Obama;
Use of the NSA by Obama to spy on everybody in the USA;
etc, etc.

2.) The use of fear of a shutdown might help to protect defunding and eventual abolishment of Obama’s narrowly focucused ideological agenda of an European-style, failure-prone, Marxist, monopoly of the US Medical Insurance Industry.

3.) Spreading fear and blame might also preserve Obama’s power to increase Obamacare Insurance premiums on an annual basis.

*This would be highly advantageous to Obama as the increase in mandatory insurance premiums would not be a tax, as the “unexpected market conditions” would be given as the reason for the increase.

*Also there would be no need to ask for the “Advice and Consent” of Congress, as the IRS would be in complete control of all income and medical records.

4.) The last reason is the most important for Obama, personally: America would at last no longer be a Nation where the Liberty to choose ones own family destiny could ever exist again.

As for Reid, the best guess I have is that he wants a Government Monopoly of the Medical Insurance Industry. Well, to be fair, Reid calls for a “single payer” system.

My guess is that multi-millionaire Reid, nearing Federal retirement, owns a lot of stock in some companies that are tied to a “single payer” system.

Maybe the NSA, or the IRS can find out for us?

I’m going to as my US Senator from TEXAS, The Esteemed Senator John “To Hell with my voters” Cornyn to check on this for me - - - .

What an idiot. Here is is a little excerpt from the negotiating for dummies handbook.

Good Negotiating Tactics - Standing firm and demanding no changes. (example - Obama standing firm on Healthcare and Debt Ceiling).

Bad Negotiating Tactics - Letting the other party dictate all terms. (example - Obama letting Assad dictate terms through the Russians).

The only people Obama wants to negotiate with are enemies of this country. He considers them potential friends.

Obama won’t negotiate with Republicans. He considers them eternal enemies.

Oddly enough from Obama’s warped perspective, this makes sense.

Eleanor Clift? Shocked that minuscule brain is still around--a legend in her own mind. Same as Cokie Roberts--same mantra for 40 years. Stuck in the sixties mindset, and haven't had a new thought since then.

Wish they would just retire--as far as I'm concerned they have. The quotes from Cokie and now Eleanor over the clift this past week are the first I've heard of them for years. Please! Let it be another decade or so before I hear them again.

McLaughlin Group. That is the only place where Eleanor Clift can find reliable employment. I don’t think she has said anything new or interesting since 1982.
