Here's The Racist 'Daily Show' Interview That Cost A Local GOP Chair His Job
Business Insider ^ | October 24, 2013 | Brett Logiurato

A North Carolina county precinct GOP chair resigned on Thursday after an offensive interview that aired on "The Daily Show" Wednesday, in which he said "lazy black people" want "the government to give them everything."

"Yes, he has resigned," said Nathan West, a spokesman for the Buncombe County Republican Party. The party had asked for Don Yelton's resignation in direct response to the interview, West said.

The interview, conducted by correspondent Aasif Mandvi, was on the topic of North Carolina's new voter ID law, over which the Justice Department has sued the state. On "The Daily Show," Yelton argued that the law wasn't racist, though he added that he's "been called a bigot before."

He brushed off those suggestions, too, arguing that one of his best friends is black.

"Now you have a black person using the term, "N— this and n— that, and it's OK for them to do it," Yelton said at one point.

That prompted Mandvi to respond, "You know that we can hear you, right?"

The Buncombe County GOP said in a statement that Yelton was "recently reprimanded and removed from his position as a precinct chair." He was re-elected to the position at the 2013 convention by a margin of two votes — himself and his wife. The party also said that Yelton did not seek permission to give the interview.

"Mr. Yelton's comments are offensive, uniformed, and unacceptable of any member within the Republican Party," the statement read. "In no way are his comments representative of the local or state Republican Party."

Now, had this been a demokkkrat, he would only have gained in stature within the party. Double standard? Nah.

Republicans need to find an effective way to combat Santa-Uncle-Sam, but when they mention it, they get skewered.

Romney faced a similar problem when he hinted at the Obama giveaways.

‘Cut the budget over THERE, but leave MY entitlements alone.’

==

It is a ‘sticky wicket’ for the GOP. Of course, many of the GOP-elite sign on to the government giveaways in hopes it will make them loved.

Why is this clip still available when the clip of Stewart skewering ObamaDon'tCare has been removed.

Oh. Right. Because this clip involves a Republican.

Never mind.

“Now you have a black person using the term, “N— this and n— that, and it’s OK for them to do it,”

That dog don’t hunt. It is an argument that ONLY is accepted by the people who already believe it; most anyone who isn’t a conservative will roll their eyes and assume the person making it just wants to use the N-word themselves but is frustrated that they can’t because they are white.
In fact, when I hear someone make that argument I cringe; you just want to shout “DEAL WITH IT”. “Fair” is where you go to eat cotton candy and ride ponies.

It’s like the “I have friends who are black” statement - anyone who thinks it is anything other than a lame joke from the Archie Bunker era is NOT going to say or do a single thing to win a new conservative vote.

“lazy black people” want “the government to give them everything.”

Is that inaccurate?

It was an interview for "The Daily Show". What the heck did he expect?

And I did see the clip. He came off as a charicature of s Southern redneck, disparaging minorities and saying that voter reforms were designed to suppress Democrat votes. Editing no doubt helped him look bad, but he gave them enough the ammunition to begin with.

We in Europe have the same problem.Just like in America we are not allowed to call a spade a spade.
In Europe you hardly see chinese people or vietnamese people claiming benefits. On the other hand blacks and muslims queue up to every office handing out benefits. They are so busy claiming they don´t have time to work.

he was dumb to say such a thing... i mean, really... truth or not, conservatives have been pushed to resign for less... lazy people is all he ought to have said... and he would have taken flack for even that, but no resignation...

“....we are not allowed to call a spade a spade.” Uh oh. You gonna be in trouble now. LOL! The “recipients” have a full schedule of lining up in the queues that there just simply isn’t enough time in the day to lower themselves to actually contribute. Maggie was spot on when she said “Sooner or later you run out of other peoples money.” Of course the people with REAL money have ways to keep it and not share in the “redistribution” to the peons. That’s cause the are soooooooo smart. Also, thanks for checking in from across the pond.

Same here——also Indians.

If this had been a Democrat, he wouldn’t have been fired. The party would have circled the wagons, doubled-down on his comments, and accused his opponents of racism.
