The scripture says blessed are the poor in spirit not blessed are the poor,
Jesus never denounces getting wealth or having wealth but he does denounce loving wealth more than God.

Uh, maybe. I think Jesus assumed those who held onto their wealth - perhaps in a greedy/selfish way - were certainly headed for trouble:
Matthew 19:24
Wealth gets in the way because it chases the gold in the golden calf.
“And again I say to you: It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven.”
