OKLAHOMA CITY -
A 4.5 magnitude earthquake rocked central Oklahoma Saturday afternoon.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake was recorded at 12:10 p.m. Its epicenter was located four miles northwest of Jones, seven miles east of Edmond, nine miles north, northwest of Choctaw, and 14 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.
It was about five miles deep.
Residents across Oklahoma reported feeling the earthquake just after 12 p.m. Saturday. It lasted several seconds.
News 9 viewers in many Oklahoma cities, including Oklahoma City, Edmond, Stillwater, Tulsa, Harrah, Mustang, and Guthrie, reported feeling the earthquake.
We also felt it right here at our News 9 station in Oklahoma City.
That had to suck. Bush’s Fault no doubt!
Was about 7 miles east of me. I heard it, then felt. It was like a wave of sound and motion. Shook everything in the house. I really thought something hit the roof. Dog is still jittery. ....red
Was it strong enough to break up the ice in Dallas?
And before anyone blames this on the oil and gas industry.
NOBODY DRILLS 5 MILES DEEP in that part of the state. NOBODY. They don’t now and they never have.
I hope everybody is OK. I lived just west of this epicenter years ago. Built a nice house there.
Go Sooners!
Please spare us!
Out in LALA-land, 4.5 would go unnoticed, unfelt, and definitely unremarked. Call in with 6.5 or better.
Is anywhere in OK related to the New Madrid?

I think they are different kinds of earthquakes. The Big One on the New Madrid fault was felt several states away - another big one on the NM will be devastating.
I am sitting in the airport at OKC. I felt the quake, but I thought that it was ramp personnel working a jetway too roughly. Guess not.
There was a bang sound, as though something hit the building. Then the whole structure swayed. (You could feel it, but not see it.) The reverberations died out quickly with only three or so perceptible oscillations. No aftershocks (so far).
Uh oh....
No Way !!! It's the Globull Warming :)
There’s been way more earthquakes in Oklahoma than usual, over the last few years.
Go Cowboys!!!!
In all my reading on the New Madrid earthquakes (which produced the biggest earthquakes in history in the continental US) - I’ve never seen a mention of any connection with Oklahoma.
The earthquakes on the New Madrid are different than the ones in the Fruitcake State due to the difference in the tectonic plate. Midwest quakes roll, like waves. California ones rock.
With that big snowstorm occurring, this quake DOES seem weather related somehow. Maybe the coldness of the ground and contracting?
These have been going on for a few years now. This is not new or isolated. Earthquakes have picked up in the last few years in Oklahoma.
Edited: The New Madrid fault line danger zone does NOT include Oklahoma.
Oklahoma has it’s own faults?
New Madrid is over by Mississippi River and no where near Oklahoma.
Didn’t feel anything here...near Claremore. Felt our first one last year, will never forget it. Thanks for posting.
