The government basically told the NFL, “Nice Anti-Trust Exemption you’ve got there, hate to see anything bad happen to it.”

As John Gall wrote in Systemantics: All systems (organizations) grow to the point that they oppose their own stated function. IOW, The stated goal is to organize football games, not push gay rights and other agendas that will tick off their fan base. Maybe they think their fan base is evolving and wants more pink ribbons, gay players coming out, and other new age silliness. Maybe that's true, maybe that's why this old guy doesn't watch much NFL anymore.
