PM Netanyahu: “The Operation Will Be Expanded Until the Goal is Achieved”
Jewish Press ^ | July 21st, 2014 | Aryeh Savir

JERUSALEM – Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu held a security meeting with Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon, IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz and GOC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Sammy Turgeman this afternoon (Jul. 21) at an IDF base in the south.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said: “The IDF is making progress in the field according to plan and the operation will be expanded until the goal is achieved – restoring quiet to the citizens of Israel for a long period. The achievements in the fighting in the field are outstanding. I am impressed by the operation to hit the tunnels; it is achieving results beyond what we expected. On behalf of the people of Israel, I tell all the soldiers in the field that we are proud of their strength of spirit and that we pray for their well-being. A military campaign is a complex thing and it has difficult moments. I am certain that together, united, we will reach the goal.”

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon stated earlier today that the operation will continue until there is quiet, adding that the IDF will draft more reservists if necessary.

Strategic Affairs Minister Yuval Steinitz stated last week that that he believes the IDF should temporarily control Gaza, disarming Hamas while it does so.

Earlier today Hamas fired a massive barrage of rockets at several large cities in Israel. 14 rockets were fired at the Ashkelon area; nine of the rockets were intercepted and two fell in open spaces. Four rockets were fired at the Tel Aviv area; two were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-rocket system.

In total, Hamas has fired some 1,820 rockets at Israel since July 8th. That’s an average 140 rockets every day.

Not sure Obama will allow that. Like John Kerry told the Prime Minister, he's been in Vietnam. In combat. Obama has been in Starbucks.

Obama has proven to be Bibi’s stooge. Bibi will keep going until his little “operation” is complete

Given many precedents and the nature of politicians I suspect the goal is to effectively kick the can down the road, gain a year or two of relative peace but NOT to eliminate the Jihadist threat. The operation will be terminated somwhere short of effectively ending the threat.

It strikes me that Israel is losing more than was expected but maybe it was known that there had to be losses when operating in a hostile area filled with heavily armed fanatics.

I really hope they can totally destroy the Palestinian’s ability to operate out of Gaza for a long time.

Lord God, be with your people, Israel, and let them see your hand in their success.

Bravo. Every time a rocket is launched at Israel the IDF should take and KEEP that territory. Keep pushing the animals back until they are out of range of Israel.

Bibi is a BRILLIANT guy. He knew that he had to keep his powder dry and wait for the PRECISE MOMENT to clean house.

He waited, and waited, and it finally came. He understands his enemy better than any leader Israel has ever had - he sees them just as we conservatives see them, and he’s dealing with it. US leaders - including both Bush’s, and of course the Democrats, have ZERO UNDERSTANDING of the level of hatred down there and they only want a “legacy” like Jimmy Carter has with Egypt...and they could CARE LESS if it cripples Israel and leads to another holocaust - because they simply CANNOT imagine that happening (because they have no clue who the enemy is)...but we can and so can Bibi.

According to the Oslo Accords, Gaza is supposed to be a Demilitarized zone.

Funny how all those weapons are in a “Demilitarized zone”,eh?

This is what the borders of Israel should look like:

But the League of Nations thought differently.

I wonder what area Israel and Judea occupied during the time of David or Solomon? I don’t think I have ever seen a map.

Silly Netanyahu forgets that one now goes to war against Muslim terrorists with a CNN correspondent accompanying every unit to film footage every step of the way, with ROI allowing only the demolition of tackle-dummies dressed like white Evangelicals, and with the pre-approval of every anti-Semite from here to Timbuktu.

It is interesting to see the borders change. Read Joshua, if i recall correctly, the eastern border goes way east of the river Jordan, and definitely includes all of present day Gaza.

I remember Samson died while killing a lot of Philistines in Gaza. I have no idea if that Gaza was the same as the modern one.

I believe Gaza was simply a city at that time, as it is today. The area called the Gaza Strip today has multiple towns/cities, with Rafah on the southern border.

No, ‘silly’ Netanyahu hasn’t forgotten that.

As recent history shows, he has conquered that angle too.

Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu’s a major world leader... He does NOT need ‘help’ from Kerry, Carter, Clinton, the UN etc.

Maybe when this is over Netanyahu can send some of his people to the United States to help Obama and Kerry with ideas on how the United States can control her borders...
