Yup. They do resemble each other. I find it interesting that Holden would prefer to leave his safe job as B.R. Mayor to run for what’s generally considered a ceremonial office in Lt Governor (which you know is basically an advocate for state tourism).

In other states, Lt Governor is far more powerful, often serving as President of the State Senate (here in TN, the Lt Gov serves simultaneously as a State Senator and is elected by that body to preside, and is usually referred to as Speaker of the Senate). In Texas, theirs is considered even more powerful than the Governor.

The discussion of Guillory made me recall another Black Republican who made an attempt for the office back in 2003, 35-year old Kirt Bennett (whom I endorsed in that race). Alas, he was largely ignored by the media for obvious reasons. Sadly, he died from a stroke at just 42 back in 2010, just as he was making an impact.

That was my first thought when I saw Guillory at 2% in that poll: “Well, hw won’t have to worry about having to quit as Lt. Gov. a few days into his term if he’s named to the Senate. I still think that it makes sense for Vitter to resign his Senate seat a few weeks after he’s elected governor and have Gov. Jindal name his replacement in the Senate.

Don’t hold your breath. Vitter and Jindal hate each other with a passion.

I was wondering. This is his 3rd term. Is it three, or is it two that was implemented after he started ?

I didn’t know it was three terms; two is usually the norm for such four-year offices, but it is three terms for the state House now, a total of 12 years. Some then run for the state Senate where they can sit another 12 years.

I checked the Baton Rouge gov’t website. It confirms three term limit passed back in 1995.
