Imagine President Ted Cruz
New York Times ^ | March 23, 2015 | Editorial

Posted on 03/23/2015 4:06:30 PM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

“Think just how different the world would be,” said Senator Ted Cruz on Monday, in a speech so packed with vision-spinning and the word “imagine” that it seemed as if John Lennon had returned, as a Hispanic Texan running a hard-right, anti-establishment, Christian-themed campaign for the White House.

Weird. But weird is the essence of Mr. Cruz, who is now the first major Republican in the 2016 race.

The “imagines” that Mr. Cruz doled out were well chosen for his audience, students at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. Robust cheers greeted one of the first: “Imagine young people coming out of school with four, five, six job offers.”

Of course if you know Mr. Cruz, or are familiar with how government is supposed to work, or with reality in general, you’ll find some of his imaginaries problematic, like abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, sealing the border, or “repealing every word of Obamacare.”

“Imagine a federal government that works to defend the sanctity of human life and to uphold the sacrament of marriage,” he said. But Mr. Cruz says he is a champion of personal liberty, too, and gay couples who love each other are demanding their liberty to marry, just not in a way he finds acceptable. No data supports Mr. Cruz’s claim that health-insurance premiums are “skyrocketing” under Obamacare. Immigrants, legal and otherwise, are building this country, and efforts to vacuum-seal the border by troops and fences alone will continue to fail, and the country will suffer from its entrenched hostility to its immigrant population, no matter what Mr. Cruz says.

Mr. Cruz, whose oratory captures so many Republican paradoxes and idiocies, especially on immigration and health care, has set a solid baseline for the messy job ahead.

I honestly wish he would stay in Senate to buttress our main way we run this country.

However, times are such that we need SOMEONE who is #1 a patriot and #2 who will return us from the nightmare we have gone through

Imagine Candidate Cruz delivering one or two full speeches a week in Spanish. Imagine Candidate Cruz explaining why repealing Obamacare will create jobs and lower medical costs. Imagine Candidate Cruz mopping the floor with every liberal in the race (establishment republicans along with democrats). Imagine President Cruz carrying out his campaign promises, revoking every executive order from January 20, 2009, through his I\inauguration Day. Imagine President Cruz shrinking the real size of FedGov for eight years in a row.

Cruz knows more about HOW the GOVERNMENT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK than 1000 NY SLIMES reporters have forgotten about how to do real impartial journalism.

It doesn’t matter if Ted Cruz was born in Canada. It is the same deal as with McCain being born in Panama while his father was posted there. If a child is born of a US citizen while they are overseas, the child is a natural-born US citizen.

Cruz is a natural-born US citizen.

US citizens born overseas are, in some countries, also citizens of the country they are born in. In this case they are known as dual nationals. This is what you are referring to. Note FYI that Cruz renounced his Canadian citizenship a few years ago.

Note also, without this being the case, every member of the US military posted with their families overseas who have children during their tour of duty, would have their children NOT be US citizens. Obviously this wouldn’t fly.

As to my factual knowledge, I have a daughter that was born in Argentina when I was working there in the mid-80’s.

We had to file a “Report Of Birth Abroad Of A Citizen Of The United States Of America” form FS-240 Rev 3-80 with the US embassy.

Accompanying documentation was the Argentine official birth certificate, the parents marriage certificate, a statement from the attending physician, a statement from the hospital, the parental evidence of US citizenship (US passports in our case), and a listing of the periods of parental residence in the US.

The embassy issued a US Birth Certificate Form FS-54S Rev 1/73, issued by the Dept. of State, Foreign Service of the United States of America, “Certification of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America”

It was stamped with an embossed stamp and signed by the Consul General of the US embassy.

She was subsequently also issued a US passport, which she entered the US with as an infant when we returned to the US from Argentina.

She is not a naturalized citizen. She never had a visa for entry. She never had a green card.

She has a US birth certificate and a US passport. Under the law, she is a natural-born US citizen.

My daughter can run for President, and so can Ted Cruz.

Foreign Service of the United States of America,

Go back to law school. Embassy staff and troops stationed over seas are not the same as Joe blow living over seas. If you were ever part of the Foreign Service you should know that.
