Rand will make a fine stalking horse for Cruz.

“The Paul campaign dismisses the criticism. His team said the campaign website garnered more than 1 million views in the first 24 hours, with most coming from 24-35-year-olds. The candidate’s digital team, monitoring Facebook interactions and conversations about the senator, said he has been discussed in mostly positive terms among a broad cross section of voters since launching Tuesday.”

Never fear! In places where Paul is being discussed in NOT so “mostly positive terms”, his digital team will deploy an army of 24-35-year-old Paulbots to attempt to sway poll numbers, clearing the way for The Maggot.

I always get kicked for pointing it out, but... VPs don’t do anything. Except help get the President elected. Ted is close to Ron as they agree on mostly financial issues. We don’t have to admire Paul, but we need to view him as a vote-bringer.

This isn’t at all what was predicted for the last six months, is it?

Interesting conversation with a friend earlier in the week re Cruz: he’s an Austin conservative (read “fiscal conservative/social libertarian) who voted for Cruz and said he never will again, because “Cruz changed”. His proof: Cruz acted like an attorney and advocate when in the Solicitor General’s office, but is now acting like a politician, “playing to his base”.

My thought: so? He WAS a legal advocate in the SG’s office. He IS running for political office. Friend couldn’t point to any issue on which Cruz has changed his position.

Cruz or lose.

Got to be careful with that. Arguably, Reagan’s worst decision was Bush. It didn’t have to pan out the way it did, of course, but, in retrospect, it would have been far better if Reagan had picked someone who wasn’t averse to what Reagan stood for.

Having said that, I wouldn’t be overly concerned with Paul as VP, given that you are correct that their primary role is to act as a vote-getter. I would be quite troubled if Cruz picked an establishment Republican, as Reagan did. But, given Cruz’ clarity and intellectual honesty, I would expect him to pick someone who is closer to him ideologically.

Bush was forced on Reagan, so the gop-eSTAB would take over ‘if anything happened to the nice President’ like John Hinckley.

Tom Cotton seems like a good VP pick, but he can’t bring in millions of votes and ground-game like Rand and Ron can, on the trail with Cruz, who is adamantly 10th Amendment, and can remind voters they can have legal weed if they can get their statehouses to go along.

Cruz vs. Paul

Social conservative vs. libertarian

I’ll side with Ted.

IMHO, Paul is more likely to "take" votes away from the likes of Jeb and Rubio than from Cruz and Walker.

For that reason the GOPe is going after Paul.

"Paul had a disastrous rollout…He'll get back on track, but it was not a good first impression."

You sure about that?

About 2 years ago I asked my son who is in his mid 40’s with almost 20 years Special Forces and 82nd Airborne who his segment of the world liked. He said that Paul had a lot of support among the military he knew. I don’t know whether it was Ron or Rand he was speaking of. I’ll have to ask him again.
