Eighteen U. S. senators have urged the Obama’s administration to halt Shell’s Arctic drilling plans saying that it is an unacceptable and irresponsible decision, says a report in Reuters.

Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley, joined by seventeen other Senators, has urged the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) to halt all offshore oil and gas drilling permits in the Arctic region.

In that it appears that Oregon is self sufficient in energy production I think that all exports of oil, fuel, and natural gas to Oregon should be immediately terminated.

I think these guys want to return to the Horse and Buggy. I would bet the house that their biggest campaign contributors are environmental groups. I have said before and I will say again “the biggest threat to the U.S. Economy and National Security is the Environmental Lobby and the Politicians they buy”.

There’s no oil shortage now. What’s the point of drilling in the Arctic at this time?

The question must be asked, how many are democrats, and the answer would be most if not all, just on principle. Now to find out if I’m right.

Can we produce all of the oil we need without having to kiss Arab ass? If not, then consider that we do have a shortage.

Can we produce all of the oil we need without having to kiss Arab *ss.

I believe we can, and that's why the Saudis created this lowering of prices. Because of it, the US is producing less oil domestically and many domestic drillers are hurting.

The reason for this is they are being led by anti-humanity environmentalists, who are under the false impression that mankind utilizing the Earth’s abundant resources is harmful to the planet.

If you hate other people, despise the “unwashed masses”, envy the rich and successful, worship unspoiled nature, and only want you and your friends as the only humans in it, you might be an environmentalist!

The environmentalists have a lot of campaign money to throw around, and democrat senators are the cash catchers.

The error, of course, is thinking that producing oil out of the Artic regions will environmentally harm them. Modern technology allows human beings to tap these resources with a minimum footprint and applies multiple safeguards.

And why should the US government have veto power over a private company that has paid and acquired mining rights to an area? As long as that company works within the law to provide those safety features described above, why should any senator care? BECAUSE of the anti-humanity environmentalist gold, of course!

...saying that it is an unacceptable and irresponsible decision...

Politicians and press flaks toss these kinds of terms around all the time, with absolutely nothing to back them up. Ok Senators... Exactly why is this decision "unacceptable?" Then, please explain explicitly how this decision is "irresponsible." You accuse your opponents of these kinds of actions, back them up with real reason...or we'll see who it is that is being irresponsible, tossing around unfounded accusations.

A lot of the Environmentalist in Oregon and Washington have already done a pretty good job of shutting down Logging in their States. Some logging towns are now ghost towns because of it. The environmentalists get their people elected in the big population centers of Portland and Seattle and they outnumber the people who earn a living in the Logging Industry. They don’t need any help from the people in Alaska as they are succeeding on their own.
