shhhh! why am I not surprised. Someone make a map of the world with nations on it that would align with Iran and those who align with Saudi Arabia. Or if any nation will care after the world economy crashes.

Saudi Arabia and the U.S. have created ISIS, albeit the U.S. has done so by default.

We have always tried to contain Iran for fear that they would institute something that looked like ISIS.

We are now in the Bazaar situation of needing to back Assad, as the most sane and least murderous winner.

If it weren’t for the plight of the Christians, I’d be happy to see them eat each other over the next 20 years feeding Assad just enough support to keep ISIS from winning.

I've said it before, Saudi sees itself as the protector of Islam. Iran's whack-jobs want that leadership role for themselves. Saudi is dominated by Sunni, Iran by Shia. Saudi is arab, Iran is not. Lots of reason for conflict there.

Worst, or perhaps most telling of all, is that Iran's "leadership" has called for wiping Israel off the map. Iran is pursuing WMD. Saudi isn't stupid. They know Iran's "leadership" just might be crazy enough to try. Saudi also knows that if a WMD goes off anywhere in Israel, Israel *will* retaliate in a big way - most likely by turning Mecca and Medina into glass-topped self-lighting parking lots. Mecca and Medina are in Saudi, and they know they could not stop the Israeli Air Force from carrying out such a retaliation. I believe Saudi sees their duty to Islam as far more important than petty contemporary politics. So in practical terms, they are more than willing to work with Israel if need be in order to protect their interests from the indirect threat posed by Iran.

I predict that if it really comes down to it... We will see Israel carry out a strike against Iranian nuclear facilities. That strike will not only use Saudi airspace, but air bases as refueling stops, and may even include the Saudi Air Force flying support missions - SEAD and other supporting strikes on Iranian airbases. The message will be loud and clear - no threat to Mecca and Media will be tolerated.

Not odd at all. Both are hated and threatened by Shi’ite Iran.

The uniting of Israel and Saudi Arabia against the threat of Iran is an unintended result of the nuke cave-in to Iran by Obama.

In attempting to isolate Israel, Obama has succeeded in isolating Iran. And it’s not just the Saudis. Egypt, UAE, Jordan and others have stepped up to oppose Iran in Yemen. It’s not just talk.

Typical of lefty thinking, or lack thereof. They never think about down-road consequences. The ones they attempt to “help” in the end lose out, and this time it may be a good development.

Notice how the Palestinian problem has suddenly moved to the back of the bus?

All the same, it looks to me like the most common radical and largely most deadly variety of Islam as displayed by people like Boko Haram, ISIS, El Shabaab are funded by the Gulf (largely Sunni) nations like Saudi Arabia, even if somehow it is funneled per private citizens or Mosques. Of course, ISIS does make a lot of the funds they have, taking over Mosul provided a lot of revenue.

It is not "odd" at all. It is very easily expected. Those who possess great wealth (for example, the USA) have a very strong and rational interest in keeping the peace, keeping the status quo, and avoiding fast and unexpected change (like that which happens with warfare).

We have been the "world's policemen" for decades since WWII, in part because of our newly-found position as the global super-rich society (comparatively-speaking). It has been in our best interest to make sure that regional changes are slow, measured, and as small-scale as possible. The slower things change, the longer we stay at the top.

The Saudi ruling family is enjoying the fruits of stealing the assets and equipment of American and British oil companies several decades ago, and have been living lives of startling wealth and power ever since. They don't want that to change, and so they will do whatever it takes to try to ensure that no group or nation in their region goes about making big and fast changes... changes which could mean their ouster from their amazingly easy and fabulous lifestyles. Right now, given the previous few years with Obama enabling the worst Islamic elements, their job is getting more and more difficult. Siding with the Israelis is their best bet to ensure that big changes don't happen too quickly.

We are still reaping what Rummy, Wolfowitz, Kristol, and the other NWO jerks have sown. We should have left Saddam in place so Iraq and Iran could keep busy by killing each other.
