Islamic State-linked militants struck Egyptian army outposts in the Sinai Peninsula on Wednesday in a coordinated wave of suicide bombings and battles that underlined the government's failure to stem an insurgency despite a two-year crackdown. Security officials said dozens of troops were killed, along with nearly 100 attackers.

After the attack, which took place just across the border from Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, "We send our condolences to the government and people of Egypt, and to the families of the Egyptians that were slain by this vicious terrorism."

Later on Wednesday, Netanyahu said, "We see ISIS [Islamic State] at the gates -- across the border in the Golan, across the border in Egypt. ... We must stand up to all the forces of militant Islam, those led by Iran, those led by ISIS. We should not strengthen one or the other. We should weaken both of them."

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon also commented on the Sinai attack on Wednesday, saying, "Our hearts are with the Egyptian people and the families of the victims."

The Israel Defense Forces closely monitored Wednesday's events in Sinai. An IDF official said that while the events were worrying, they posed no imminent concrete threat to Israel. There is a worry, however, that the situation in Sinai could end up negatively affecting the security of Israeli towns near the border with Egypt.

The deadliest fighting in Sinai in decades followed the assassination of Egypt's chief prosecutor and a vow by President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi to step up the legal battle against Islamic militants.

Later Wednesday, a special forces team raided a Cairo apartment and killed nine fugitive members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, including a former member of parliament, security officials said.

Am I overly optimistic, or might Egypt be throwing off the yolk of Islam? The Berber chick on the camel would have driven them back, had she not called for attacks on the cities, which drove Egyptian urban areas to support Islam. But that was hundreds of years ago, and besides the wench is dead. Now DAESH is threatening to attack Cairo in its campaign against the Sisi government. Have we gone full circle? I can hope. Hope is frail, but cheap.

...We see ISIS at the gates in Sinai and Golan...

And, these savage murderers have never come upon such a formidable and determined military like that of Israel.
They will quickly find out what “Never Again” really means.

Israel should try to buy those A10 planes the US is scrapping, they would protect the Attack helicopters and machine gun down the terrorists.

I think you may be correct. I can see ISIS controlling Egypt, Syria, and Jordon in the coming year.

I wonder if Israel would step in before the three fell. I also wonder what it might mean for having a peaceful neighborhood after saving the Arab world.

When Isis attacks Israel it’s game on. Israel won’t get any help from the US while Hussein is in office, but Israel won’t need it.
