Washington (CNN)Donald Trump has a significant lead in the race to win over likely Iowa caucus-goers, according to the first CNN/ORC poll in the state this cycle.
Trump tops the field with 22% and is the candidate seen as best able to handle top issues including the economy, illegal immigration and terrorism. He's most cited as the one with the best chance of winning the general election, and, by a wide margin, as the candidate most likely to change the way things work in Washington.

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson follows Trump in overall preference with 14%, bumping Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who had held the top spot in most recent public polling in Iowa, down to third place with 9%. Walker is nearly even with a slew of other candidates.

But beyond that, they spark donations and volunteers. NO ONE will volunteer long for (or certainly give much money to) a candidate who can't get above 5% anywhere. That's why Santorum is pretty much done, Perry is already unable to pay his staff in SC, and Jindal, Gilmore, Graham, and Christie are probably gonna be gone quickly. I would bet that Kasich and Huckabee are the next to go.
Then it will be tricky to see how long Rubio can keep raising money with Bush in the race (or vice versa), how long Carson's support hangs in, and what happens to Walker, because these would be the next trio on the bubble.
bush’s pac/pac funders are going to pay for perry, graham, Huckabee, Kasich, Rubio, to continue no matter what.
He desperately needs vote splitters. bush is running a McCain campaign to have “just enough” to win.
this is a chess game.
which of those you named are the most needed for Jbush as conservative vote splitters.
I'm sure that there were some hinky things in this poll---but it's right in line with Missouri, Michigan, the previous poll out of IA (if a little high for Trump), and the only poll NOT in line with these was the one they touted--the Rasmussen poll showing Trump still in the lead but had "lost" 9 points.
Bush is a nice man, a true gentileman—but we don’t need that sort in the White House now—we need a scrapper—a Bully Ruffian. Trump can do this. He has proven himself in scraps that might have sank another running for the job. In the world of DC Comics—Lex Luther ran for and won the presidency—and did a great job! Nice may not what we need in White House.
As for conservative, right now the most conservative position in America is "We the people" get to decide our government. And I think only one person can actually win with that principle, and it's not Cruz.
Someone has to die first. Speaking of die, Jimmy Carter’s on his way out . . . .
He played it too safe last debate. Next time, he should relentlessly go after Hillary. Every single time.
Exactly!

Good point. I read (on FR) that Cruz’ campaign donated (maybe $500K?) to Carly’s campaign. Wonder what the reason is, for that.
THis is good news for Cruz...he’s on an upward trajectory...steadily gaining support...his fundraising numbers alone tell the story of his campaign growth. Its a long game plan.
Walker is a dud as I’ve said. He’ll continue to stagnate and then fall.
Carson just on Cavuto. Excellent interview.
Very complimentary of Trump. Did a parody of friend from neighborhood

Are you listening in. Just told exact same thing to neighbor
Ben Carson would be a good surgeon general or some cabinet position.
Shuuuush! Cincinnatus Wife might hear. :-)
Trumps sister was appointed to federal bench by Reagan Clinton appointed her to Appellate Court. She spoke in behalf of Alito at confirmation hearing.
Advisor for SCOTUS shares Thanksgiving dinner table
That’s a brilliant idea. After Holder, that DOJ needs a major cleaning out, with lots of its attorneys in orange. I’d prefer to see Cruz in that role than as POTUS.
