EPA Contractor Involved in Colorado Spill Identified as Environmental Restoration

Fenton, Mo., company was tasked with mitigating pollutants from closed mine. Missouri-based Environmental Restoration LLC was the contractor whose work caused a mine spill in Colorado that released an estimated 3 million gallons of toxic sludge into a major river system

The EPA, which was overseeing the servicing of the mine, had previously said an unnamed outside contractor was using heavy equipment when it accidentally triggered a breach in the abandoned Gold King Mine, letting out wastewater that had built up inside it.

ER is the USEPA’s largest provider of environmental emergency response services, responsible for six regions as prime contractor. For the past 12 years, ER has managed activities at federal government Superfund sites directing cleanup efforts.

ER has performed more than 1,000 agency-issued Task Orders for remediation and response projects. Scope of work for these Task Orders includes large scale excavations, residential excavation/restoration, facility demolition and decontamination, emergency response, remediation and restoration services.

Our response crews have been on scene providing cleanup services for the country’s largest oil spills and most critical hazardous materials releases incidents.

This intentional release was done so the place becomes a superfund site froever and someone will have to oversee the cleanup for the next 30 years.

If you’re not part of the solution, there’s good money in prolonging the problem.
