Rand Paul V. Donald Trump: Eminent Domain
National Review ^ | 9/14/2015 | John Fund

Posted on 09/14/2015 11:42:47 AM PDT by SMCC1

"Paul later told me he thinks he has found an approach that will separate Trump from the rest of the GOP field: eminent domain. “A hallmark of Republicans is that they respect private property. But Trump runs roughshod over it,” he said. “He is a serious abuser of taking property for his private benefit.”

Oh so the GOPee has gone to Paul now...Trump will do to him what he did to Graham...

The GOPee is running scared and they will pit anyone on Trump, but it won't work, Trump's supporters aren't messing around...

We have had enough of the ‘politicians’ and we don't want them in the White House because they will turn out to be what we have now....

He also tried to take a Scottish farm for a golf course.

Farmers are losers.

Norton AFB, SoCal, 1982.

The airbase had done a study of aircraft accidents, and had cncurred that the ‘safety zone’ around the runways needed to be widened and lengthened.

I lived in a house that ‘in the approach runway zone’. In fact the red end-of-runway lights were visible from my back door, as well as the approaching aircraft, with the landing gear down and landing lights on, from my front door.

So, all the fifty houses at my end of ‘the new-to-be-improved-zone’, were offered a set fee, supposedly at market value, and if we refused, the USAF would just condemn the houses, pay us nothing, no moving compensations, nada.

I took the money and ran. I made $15,000.00 above the price that the house was mortgaged for.

Rand Paul wants to chide Trump about eminent domain?

What about all the houses, from 1982, that have been forced sales, ‘for the convenience of the government’, which as a U.S. Senator, Rand Paul has put his ‘aye’ vote, towards?

Try taking the subject of Eminent Domain to the Great Unwashed and watch how fast their eyes glaze over.

Most likely correct, but you could add Supreme Court nominations, Federal Spending, ISIS and a entire host of issues. That is why primaries are for the loyalist who follow the issues.

I remember the outrage over the Kelo decision back in 2005. So was the outrage that many states passed Eminent Domain reform (maybe congress did to). Conservatives even tried to Eminent Domain Souter's cottage to show him the ridicuousless of the decision. Kelo becaome a conservative limitus test.

Do you guys even TRY to be serious?

The whole point is that it was for the use of a private business. It's crony corporate WELFARE. It is fascism.

I remember the outrage over the Kelo decision back in 2005.

The way I remember it, only a few us wackobirds were paying attention. It got virtually no attention on talk radio or FNC. Not a ratings grabber, I guess. Then, it was too late.

BTW - Is there a way to change my handle?

Back in the Bush days, for a lot of FReepers, the BOR consisted of the 2nd Amendment and the rest were for "liberals". Since 2009, things have changed!

I'd really like to change it, if I can.

Sen. Paul has only been in Congress since 2011.

Context is everything.

Trump is pictured with the Rev (many years ago) since Don King introduced them. It was good for his casino business to be nice to Al.

Randy Paul met with Al Sharpton recently, as a politician, as part of his shameless pandering tour to the African American community.

The government stealing private property is a conservative position! We should remove all limits that protect private property from the government! We need to make the GOPe understand that they have to embrace big government!

Trump’s campaign manager was an adviser to Sharpton’s 2004 presidential campaign.

So, basically what you are saying, is the government should force people to do what is in their and the public's general interest.

Sounds kind of like what Hillary said.

I can’t believe how vast the belief that the government needs absolute power has become. Next up: the government should determine what everybody’s salary is.

But in real world, Trump's actions with respect to the issue were horrible and he should have been ashamed of himself:

If you're an idiot, I suppose that works for you. So a little old "widow" spends years blackmailing developers for millions of dollars even before Trump came around-- doesn't even have her land taken from her-- and ends up selling her hovel for less than what Trump offered, and Trump should be ashamed? Please.

...I can't fault a person for acting in his own best interests, as long as that action is clearly within the law.

I sure as hell can, and do, especially considering who writes the laws.

If you were building a hotel, and you needed an area for a parking lot and one homeowner would not budge, even after being offered ONE MILLION DOLLARS for a property worth $125,000.... what would you do ?

Are you friggin' serious?

OK, well here's what I would NOT do.

I would not manipulate corrupt New Jersey elected officials to use condemnation laws and government power to FORCE someone to sell me their property against their wishes.

She was an elderly woman who didn't want to sell her home to some garish casino owner. She didn't want a million dollars. Who the hell are you to force her to move?!
