Good for Carson. Don’t back down when you know you’re right.

Stop digging, Dr. Carson. There’s not a Moslem in the race. This is a media-generated distraction.

He’s intentionally causing a controversy to keep his name in the news on a subject that the conservative base agrees with him on. He’s learning from Trump. He probably is a very fast learner.

Do you personally think it would be a good idea to have a Muslim president?

Do you personally believe that a president should be sworn in on a Koran - a book that is antithetical to the principles of liberty?

Ah, now I get it. I was confused by the issue’s utter irrelevance to the presidential campaign.

To my uncreative mind, the reasoning went:
1. A Moslem may legally be President if he or she meets the other qualifications.
2. Voters may decide against a candidate because he is Moslem, if they wish.
3. There is no Moslem running for President.

He's telling the truth.

Liberals can't handle the truth.

He's telling the truth.

Yes. That, too.

Since Islam is both a POLITICAL philosophy and a religion, I can make a case that a muslim should not be accepted as a candidate. I don't think they can take the oath with mental evasion.

CORRECTION:

Since Islam is both a POLITICAL philosophy and a religion, I can make a case that a muslim should not be accepted as a candidate. I don't think they can take the oath with WITHOUT mental evasion.

Doesn’t make any difference what book the presidential oath is taken on if the one taking that oath has no integrity. Case in point, Barrack Obama, who swore his oath on a Bible, but has ignored it ever since

I see your point, but I don’t think the framers of the Constitution intended mind-reading as an element when they proscribed a religious test.

I’m reading their minds, and I’m reading their culture. They weren’t thinking of a muslim culture, but of a Judeo-Christian one.

Nonetheless, real muslims as a matter of faith advocate for the Islamic caliphate.

That would be treason under our constitution.

“..and saying that someone should not run because they are a Muslim.”

I haven’t seen any quotes where Carson has said a Muslim shouldn’t be allowed to run.

On the other hand, what I have seen are quotes where Carson basically says it’s his opinion that this country shouldn’t elect a Muslim to the highest office in the land and anyone who is elected to that office should be sworn in by making the oath while placing his hand on a bible rather than a koran.

It would be analogous to saying that an active Ku Klux Klan member (or an avowed satan worshipper, or worshipper of the moon goddess, etc) shouldn’t be elected to the Presidency. He or she could run, but it would not be a good thing for the country for the American electorate to vote such a person into that office.

In other words, it’s Carson’s opinion on who should and should not be elected, as opposed to who should and should not be allowed to put their name on the ballot...and as such does not violate the Constitution.

I’m uncomfortable with this reasoning, and anyone’s setting up a judgment regarding a “real Moslem” and all the implication of that. It reminds me of the discussion of John Kennedy’s Catholic faith. A “real Catholic,” people said, would put obedience to the Pope over the good of the United States. Kennedy responded, in effect, by saying he wasn’t a real Catholic, so it was nothing to worry about. (This was certainly borne out by his personal life.)

The Caliphate appears in the Koran and is a fairly consistent dream of islam throughout their centuries, with many iterations of the caliphate established.

Islam is a POLITICAL philosophy as much as a religious one, TC.

That very fact itself is irrefutable, and it is also disqualifying of any candidate for our presidency.

So, I would NEVER vote for a muslim. I think that’s pretty much what Ben Carson was saying. They can run, but they’ll not get my vote.

Additionally — and this is me personally — I don’t think they’re qualified. I don’t think Bernie Sanders is either. He wants to set up a socialist form of government, and that, too, in my mind is treasonous. We are a constitutional republic.

No, and quite frankly, you cannot find a single syllable that indicates I would. That's not what I said, nor is it what Cruz said. I don't think Cruz said what he said, but he was being the technical constitutional scholar in his answer. Hint: there's a difference between "not a good idea" and "un-constitutional." That's a real stretch fella.

Americans are blinded by their own sins. One of American’s biggest sins is rejection of God and his commandments. The blind will destroy us.

I see your point, but I think these are judgment calls the voters are to make, rather than preconditions under which someone ... Who? ... would have the authority to exclude candidates.
