Impressive Tiny House [160 sf] Built for Under $30K Fits Family of 3 [Is this child abuse?]

While there are quite a few tempting "turn-key" tiny homes available to order right now, there's just something about a super personalized owner-built home that's extra thrilling to see. Case in point: this 160-square-foot "Tiny Hall House" ("Hall" being the owners' surname) in Massachusetts, which was built for under $30K over six months and houses three people.

Looking snugly lived-in and photoshoot-ready at the same time, the home comes with the standard tiny living accoutrements, including a lofted Queen bed, compact "couch" that doubles as a bed for the couple's son (the space is about two feet wide by eight feet long, which makes it about a foot narrower than the typical twin bed), kitchenette, and composting toilet. Even more rad are custom touches like the bookshelves hidden in the gabled entrance and the miniature bedside stands and lamps. Intrigued? The owners are answering tiny house questions and dropping wisdom over on their Tumblr site.

A family can choose it, and that’s fine, but our government is promoting it, which is also fine in a way...but saying this is any kind of living is just bullshit when it’s being actively promoted by our government.

I live a 3000 sq ft home and it’s fine but not large...but I pay for it so who is to say it’s too large?

That’s what this crap is all about, imo.

And this means what exactly? I thought we evolved, improved, stopped being a third world country.

I’m sure some people would consider this an improvement but I ain’t one of them.

And some of us pay for those higher standards so it’s all good.

That’s $187.50 a square foot. Pretty outrageous for something that doesn’t even come with any land. Not to mention, no room or privacy. Just buy a used travel trailer for a lot less.

Unfortunately, this is the American dream the Boomers have left to their children.

Just as there is a move towards free range chickens, humans strive to see how little space they can habituate.

Our idea of inhabiting less space was to downsize from 2400 sq ft with three car garage to 1678 sq ft and extended two car garage.

It’s a cute little house but being claustrophic and a hoarder it would never work for me.

You and I would have a lot t talk about. A little different circumstances but very similar story. I am so thankful my children have had to see struggles and how to deal with them. My two oldest boys changed for the better.
I believe in Romans 8:28.

I know right? Why would anyone who didn’t have to live in them actually live in them? I sure as hell wouldn’t.

But it’s cool, or politically correct, or something to think this is what one aspires to.

No thank you. I grew up in a tiny rowhome in south philly, not a townhouse, a tiny rowhome on a crowded street in a crowded city. It was considered a success, and it was, to be able move out of that. Which we did...out of that, to a tiny apartment to a townhouse to eventually a single family home (3000 sq ft) in a nice neighborhood in a nice suburban area.

What’s up with these stories of tiny houses? Knocking anyone who is successful, imo. Anyone who doesn’t want to live like this and has the means not to live like this.

And that can suck too!

I grew up in the city and everyone knew everyone’s business. Good and Bad.

I like my 3,000 sq ft house and frankly it wasn’t big enough for our family of 6.
